Talk to Shale in Plainsong, who you will find on the roof of the room with outfits.
Talk to the Survivor - optional
Before heading to the Oldgrowth, you can talk to a boy named Van, who survived the machine attack. You will find him in one of the rooms by the outfit merchant.
Go to the Oldgrowth
Go to the designated place north of the Plainsong.
Kill the Machines
There, you will encounter Apex Burrowers and Apex Scrappers machines. Eliminate the Burrower first, then quietly approach the Scrapper and perform a Silent Strike. If you have upgraded this skill, one blow should knock out any machine.
Recover the Utaru Hunter's Seed Pouches
You will find the first Utaru Hunters in the glade where you have just killed the machines. Activate focus and highlight the footprints you found. Follow the trail to a nearby hill; you will find the second hunter on the path.
Activate the focus again and select more footprints. The third hunter will be lying under a small tree.
Continue following the footprints and cross a small river. When you are near the bridge, activate focus and examine the remains of a strange substance near the fallen log. Activate the focus again and select more footprints.
Follow the traces and climb the rock marked by the claws of a machine. Continue following the footprints, examining more claw marks along the way, until you reach the next hill. Jump up and pull yourself to the grapple to climb up.
Kill the Machines
When you reach the glade by following the footprints, kill all the Skydrifters machines. Wait for the marked machine to land and begin patrolling the area. Lure it with a stone and do a Silent Strike. Then, hit it with a weapon dealing ice damage.
Examine the Crevice
Once you have killed all the machines, approach the crevice and examine it.
Kill the Clawstrider
Hide in the tall grass and choose a weapon that deals shock damage, to which the Apex Clawstrider is vulnerable. The Shock Boltblaster is best suited for this fight. When a bullet burst fired from the weapon knock out the machine, run up to it quickly, and perform a critical strike.
During the fight with the machine, the Utaru Lao Hunter will use a weapon that will make the Clawstrider stick to the ground. Hit the machine then to complete the task.
Talk to Utaru Hunter
After winning the battle, talk to the Utaru Hunter. Lao will give you an Adhesive Blastsling weapon for help.
Return to Shael
Go back to Plainsong and talk to Shael.
