Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: are they alike? Ghost of Tsushima guide, walkthrough

Last update: 22 July 2020

This page of our guide answers a rather unusual question - are the games Ghost Of Tsushima and Sekiro Shadows of Die Twice similar in any way? By reading this section you can find out more information about the key similarities and differences and whether the Sucker Punch game has a chance to appeal to Sekiro fans.

1 - Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: are they alike? - Appendix - Ghost of Tsushima Guide, Walkthrough
  1. Ghost of Tsushima is a much easier game than Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Even if you choose a high level of difficulty you won't have to encounter regular deaths or that the game may force you to master the combat mechanics perfectly. In Ghost of Tsushima, there are also many missions and locations to sneak around. In Sekiro, eliminating opponents in stealth mode was much less common and effective.
  2. Ghost of Tsushima does not have a large number of mandatory bosses. During the main storyline, only three of them can be encountered. Also, you will fight twice with one of the bosses. Confrontations with bosses and mini-bosses are more frequent when playing optional content, but even then none of the battles may surprise you with anything special. This is good news if mandatory boss fights in Sekiro were troublesome and tiring for you.
  3. In Ghost of Tsushima, as in Sekiro, dodge and parry actions play an important role in the combat system, that is, you need to perfectly block or dodge enemy attacks. Thankfully, the game is not as ruthless as Sekiro and does not block further progress until you have mastered the combat system. Attacking enemies with melee weapons is also only one of the many other options available in Ghost of Tsushima. That is, you can also use bows, bombs, or kunai knives.
  4. In Ghost of Tsushima you can change the difficulty level at will, but in Sekiro there wasn't any such option. What's more, none of the difficulty levels are associated with the trophies. Thus, you don't have to worry about losing a chance to unlock the platinum trophy.
  5. There is no death penalty in Ghost of Tsushima. After the hero gets killed, you will simply return to the last checkpoint. Checkpoints are created by the game very often and you can also create manual saves of your progress.
2 - Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: are they alike? - Appendix - Ghost of Tsushima Guide, Walkthrough
  1. In Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro you can use a grappling hook. However, in the Sony game this gadget is used exclusively for world exploration and grabbing remote hooks in order to climb some specific areas. Grapple hook cannot be used against enemies in Ghost of Tsushima.
  2. The Ghost of Tsushima, unlike Sekiro, has a fully open-ended world. Both games, however, put great emphasis on optional exploration of all available locations. In Ghost of Tsushima, this feature allows you to find numerous treasures or unique locations.
  3. In Ghost of Tsushima you won't encounter any monsters or demons. Also, there are no supernatural themes of fantasy motifs in the game. The game is heavily based on real historical events, although game designers didn't strive to recreate them perfectly. The priority for the authors was to write an interesting story, that is, prepare an engaging and immersive gameplay.
