Crafting in Ghost Of Tsushima - general idea

The main character, except for minor exceptions, is unable to personally craft items using crafting materials. As a result, you cannot use resources to make arrows or kunai knives on your own.

Once you amass the required amount of resources, you can visit various specialists and traders. Jin can then hand over the amassed components to them in exchange for replenishing ammo, gadgets, cosmetic items, or permanent equipment upgrades (e.g. for katanas, bows or armour).

All resources are stored in the pouch. There is a limit to carried items and resources, but most of the time, you don't have to worry about it. It is best to simply use the materials collected on a regular basis to minimize the potential for the problem of maxing-out the inventory space.

Crafting materials are found primarily in the game world. Look for all kinds of shiny objects - they can be ingots, fabrics or bushes, for example. Materials can also be awarded as a reward, e.g. for completing quests or by recapturing Mongol-held locations. Keep in mind that you can always view the reward list before you start an activity or a task. This is especially useful if you are looking for rare material of a particular type.

One of the aforementioned exceptions are the purple and orange flowers, which become available to gather once you unlock the blowgun thanks to the progress in the main story. Collecting these flowers leads to an immediate replenishing of the supply of poison arrows (in order to make the darts you need to complete the The Proud Do Not Endure quest). You don't have to look for ready-made arrows or buy them.

Types of crafting materials

There are 12 categories of crafting materials in the Ghost of Tsushima. You can view your current stock by opening the collections tab in your inventory.

Iron	This material is found quite often. Explore the locations on the map which are occupied by Mongols.	Visit swordsmiths. Iron is one of the ingredients for improving katana and tanto.
Steel	Explore the locations on the map which are occupied by Mongols.	Visit swordsmiths. Steel is one of the ingredients for improving katana and tanto.

Supplies	The most commonly found material. Supplies are found almost everywhere.	Supplies are a type of the ingredients needed for all sorts of equipment upgrades. They can also be treated as currency in the game world, used to buy other materials as well as gadgets and ammunition.
Flowers	Explore the game world and pick up the growing flowers. You can collect flowers in all color varieties. The purple flowers are unique, as they are used to produce blow darts.	Visit traders Flowers can be used to unlock dyes for weapons and costumes, as well as to buy cosmetic items (e.g. new varieties of hats).
Predator Hides	Looted from defense dogs, boars, and bears. Each predator will leave one or more pieces of skin. Skip attacking deer, as they don't leave any items behind.	Visit trappers. Predator skins are used to increase the amount of carried gadgets and ammunition.

Buying and spending crafting materials

In the vast majority of cases, a specialist in a particular field (e.g. a Bowyer) is interested in accepting crafting materials from the hero. For these materials, a specialist can perform various services, such as upgrading weapons to a higher level to improve its statistics.

An exception to the rule described above are trappers and traders offering cosmetic items. With trappers, you can buy crafting materials as well as ammunition and gadgets (e.g. bombs or Kunai knives). In this case, supplies are the currency.

From traders, you can buy cosmetic items such as dyes, new sword designs, or unique headwear. Flowers are the currency in this case.

How to get more crafting materials?

There is a way to increase the overall number of found crafting materials. This involves acquiring a Charm of Inari. Once placed in an active slot, Jin will find more supplies, predator skins, bamboo, and wood. A bonus will be awarded every time you find the mentioned ingredients in the game world and pick them up. It does not apply to quest rewards or recapturing Mongol-held locations.

You can get this talisman by visiting a shinto shrine. Take a particular interest in the Arrow Peak Shrine from the first region of Tsushima. The talisman is a reward for completing the climb and reaching the shrine at the top of the mountain.
