In this chapter of our guide to Animal Crossing New Horizons, we will help you cross the river for the first time.

You won't be able to jump over the river in the beginning of the game...

The river is the first obstacle you will encounter. To cross it, you will need a stick or a bridge. First you can get the first one - so carry it everywhere with you.

You will receive the design of the stick from the museum manager, an owl named Blathers. To meet him you first need to bring five fish or insect specimens to Tom Nook - after you do so, he will summon Blathers. The owl will appear in the tent, the first version of the museum.

You will receive a bridge design from Tom Nook a few days later. He'll give you a quest to build three new houses. Before you can choose where to build them, Tom will ask you to build the first bridge. In this particular moment he'll give you a design that you can use at the crafting table.

... but in time you will build bridges over the rivers.
