Do not allow the enemy sniper to spot you

The note with the safe combination is in possession of an enemy officer that has appeared in the smaller village, in the Southern part of the map (point 10 on the map). Do not haste to get to him, because the officer is being guarded by six soldiers, including a sniper that watches over the area, from one of the rooftops in the village. I recommend that you reach the officer from the South-West, because this path is not as well-guarded (while along your path, remember to crouch and hide in the grass and behind covers).

It is a good idea to eliminate all of the soldiers that accompany the officer

If you want to, you can focus on eliminating the officer, with the document, straight away. Still, I recommend that you eliminate all of the nearby enemies, in the first place. Start with the abovementioned sniper and, after that, eliminate the enemies, one by one (it is best to use a suppressed weapon and melee attacks here). While staying here, take a look into the building, on whose rooftop there used to be the sniper. Thanks to this, you will obtain a War Diary - Letters to Martin; green point 10 on the map.

Kill the officer and search through his corpse

The enemy officer should be staying in the Western building, unless your actions scared him away. Depending on which you prefer, you can either shoot him or eliminate him with a melee takedown. After the successful attack, hold down the searching key/button to obtain the safe combination (War Diary - Note from Vahlen: Safe Combination).
