Farming Simulator 22: Sowing and planting FS 22 guide, tips

On this page of the Farming Simulator 22 guide you will read about sowing and planting crops.

Last update: 02 December 2021

The following page describes sowing and planting in Farming Simulator 22. You'll learn about seeders and planters, how to fill the seeders and how to use them.

When and how to sow?

Sowing or planting should be done after you prepare the soil (plowing / cultivating). There are many machines available that are dedicated to this task: they can be found in the Seeders and Planters tabs. Different types of machines are used to plant different plants. The only exceptions are poplars, sugar cane and potatoes. These can only be planted with special planters that can be found in the store, in categories dedicated to these specific plants.

Almost every seeder has a built-in cultivator (except for two top-tier models). Some of them also come with a container for solid (artificial) fertilizer - it won't be used if you don't fill it.

Planters usually don't have cultivators because root plants should be planted on plowed land. - Farming Simulator 22: Sowing and planting - Field work - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

You shouldn't plow or cultivate after sowing / planting - this will destroy the seeds / saplings, forcing you to sow again. It's a good idea to do some soil rolling though, if you haven't done it before. You should follow this order: sowing and waiting for the harvest (unless weeds appear in the meantime).

Filling machines

You can fill your machines by driving it near the palettes - a new button will appear in the help panel. - Farming Simulator 22: Sowing and planting - Field work - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

Seeders and planters must be filled first. You can do so at the store by buying palettes with grain and fertilizer. You can also fill them with a loader when taking the materials to another place -by moving the scattered grain / fertilizer with a shovel off the ground; you can also build special silos for grain / fertilizer near the fields to always have easy access to these resources.

Increasing the seeder's capacity

If you own a cheaper seeder or planter model, expanding their tanks could come in handy - Farming Simulator 22: Sowing and planting - Field work - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

If you own a cheaper seeder or planter model, expanding their tanks could come in handy. This is done by the KUHN TF1512 device (found in the Seeders tab), which is attached to the front of the tractor and provides an additional tank for fertilizer and grain - it works with each seeder / planter which uses solid fertilizer and grain. It also weights down the tractor, improving traction. You can find a similar device in the Planters tab: Lemken Solitair 23, although it doesn't store grain / seeds, only fertilizer.
