Farming Simulator 22: Connecting, machine assemblies FS 22 guide, tips

On this page you will read about combining machines in FS 22 to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Last update: 06 December 2021

Here we describe how to combine machines in Farming Simulator 22: which machines can be combined and the connector types, how to combine trailers.

General information

In Farming Simulator 22, it's possible to combine multiple machines with each other. This is especially important when working with small equipment: such machines are easiest to combine into machine assemblies capable of performing several tasks in one go. These connections should be logical: there is no reason to combine the subsoiler with the cultivator, because they do basically the same work and it won't give you any additional advantages. The second aspect: connection systems. Pay attention to the handles on the machines - those that have them on both sides can most often become a part of an "assembly".

Keep in mind that using several machines connected to a tractor at the same time will add up the power required to use them, so you need tractors with better engines to be able to use two machines at full capacity. The weight load also increases, so setting machines on one axis will require a counterweight in the form of another machine or weight.

Direction of work

Directionality - the vast majority of machines can only work in one direction. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as certain mulchers, mowers, sprayers and rollers.

This can be confusing in the case of machines such as the subsoiler: you can connect it to the front of the tractor, but if its blades aren't facing forward, it won't be able perform its job while driving forward - Farming Simulator 22: Connecting, machine assemblies - Vehicles and machinery - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

In the above screenshot, the subsoiler will be unable to work when the tractor is moving forward.

Types of connectors

The basis for connecting machines are the types of available connectors. The most common are ball hitches and bolt hitches. If the vehicle doesn't have a double hitch or isn't compatible with the visible type, you will be unable to connect the machines.

You won't find information about the type of hitch next to the machines - you can only make your own observation.

Tractors have multiple attachments, so you can connect any type of machine to them. It's different with the other machines.

The 3-point Connector is the second main type of connectors - it's used by tractors - Farming Simulator 22: Connecting, machine assemblies - Vehicles and machinery - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

The 3-point Connector is the second main type of connectors - it's used by tractors. What to pay attention to?

  1. Some machines can be combined with each other, if they have the right hitches at both the front and rear.
  2. Not every tractor has this type of hitch at the front.
  3. If the device has a visible articulated shaft (1), it means that it will utilise the tractor's drive, which will reduce its power when the device is switched on. Each tractor with a three-arm handle at the front can be connected to the shaft.

Any tractor that has a three-point connector (whether at the rear or front) also has an articulated shaft connector, even if it's not visible at first glance.

Articulated shaft

Shaft driven machines (as pictured above) need a suitable connector to draw power from the drive vehicle - Farming Simulator 22: Connecting, machine assemblies - Vehicles and machinery - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

Shaft driven machines (as pictured above) need a suitable connector to draw power from the drive vehicle. Each tractor has such a connector, but other machines usually do not. Therefore, as in this example, the shaft is unconnected, so the forage wagon won't work - but there is nothing to prevent it from being freely transported by a vehicle other than a tractor.

Combining trailers

It's possible to combine several trailers into an assembly. However, you need to pay attention to which trailers you want to connect - as earlier, they will require the correct hitches.

The first trailer only needs axles at the rear, without the front movable axle - it will be easier for you to steer it - Farming Simulator 22: Connecting, machine assemblies - Vehicles and machinery - Farming Simulator 22 Guide

The first trailer only needs axles at the rear, without the front movable axle - it will be easier for you to steer it.

  1. The other trailers don't have to be the same type, but they do require a bolt hitch.
  2. Remember that a few trailers can weigh a lot, especially when loaded.
  3. Switch between trailers to dis-attach the correct one.
  4. It's best to attach trailers to the assembly starting from the last one - more trailers there are, the more difficult it is to maneuver when attaching more.
  5. You may have encounter some trouble with emptying the trailers when you want to use the tipper to dump the goods in the back while another trailer is connected behind it.

Combining trailers is a good way to transport many goods at the same time, and it also allows you to carry out many transport jobs at once if you dis-attach them. Additionally, you can buy more trailers over time, instead of spending a large amount of money at once.
