Chickens are frequently chosen as the starter breeding business. The reason for it are low animals' requirements and low price of both chickens and their feed.
Types of farm houses
Chickens can be raised in open or closed spaces. The biggest difference is size:
- Pasture - 30 chickens, seed capacity: 750l, price: 6 000€.
- Chicken coop - 360 chickens, seed capacity: 9000l, price: 79 000€.
Given the amount of space available, pastures are only useful if you want to produce small quantities of eggs for use in production chains. Since chickens breed quickly, they will quickly run out of space.
Types of chickens
You can shop for young chickens, older chickens and roosters.
- Young chickens lay a small number of eggs, and until they reach the breeding age - 4 months - they will not reproduce. However, they consume less food, so you can buy them earlier and let them grow up, which will be much more profitable especially if you want to buy a lot of them.
- Adult chickens can immediately produce eggs and breed at a high level: each chicken will make a new chicken after two months.
- Roosters - they don't breed or lay eggs. You only buy them for meat. They reach maturity and increase their value fourfold after 6 months. You don't have to keep roosters in the chicken coop for the hens to breed.
Feeding
All chickens need is seeds. You can use wheat, sorghum or barley. If you don't have crops, but you want to start egg production quickly, you can buy a pallet or a bag of wheat in the store.
Wheat in the store is not cheap, but the chickens don't eat much - you'll have enough for a long time (although it also depends on how many chickens you breed at the same time).
Load the seeds - including the wheat from the store - onto the trailer and unload it at the place indicated by the marker.
Using the belt systems, you can automate feeding: simply set the belt up in front of the building, start it, and pour the food in front of it. Chickens will automatically get more feed if they eat all seeds they had.
Collection and use of eggs
Eggs appear on pallets in front of the pasture, and behind the coop, if you have one. A big plus is their low weight - you can load them on the vehicle manually.
You can sell the eggs directly in the store or use them in the production chain. They are only use to make Cake which is the most difficult product that requires many other ingredients, so it's not worth thinking about at the beginning of the game.
One egg pallet holds 1400 eggs.
