God of War: Return to the Summit - Walkthrough God of War Guide and Walkthrough

On this page of the God of War game guide you will find the walkthrough of the Return to the Summit quest, which is all about trying to get to Jotunheim. Our guide explains how to get back to the top of the mountain, how to deal with the Frost Ancient, how to open the bridge to Jotunheim and how to behave during the second confrontation with the Baldur boss.

Return to the Mountain
Go to Brok's shop. The dwarf gives you another favour (that is if you have completed the previous one).
Run towards the summit. Watch an interesting cut-scene - Atreus is shouting at Sindri. The boy thinks that he is superior to him. His ego has grown after he learned that he is a god.
After that you will be attacked by a huge number of enemies - Ogres, Wulvers and other enemies.
Climb up and move towards the mountain. Defeat a few enemies and listen to Kratos and Atreus' quarrel.
You finally reach the room with a statue that depicts a Deer. You also meet one of the Thor's sons who survived the previous battle. Time for the culmination of Atreus' dilemmas - the boy will commit murder against his father's orders.
Atreus won't listen to your orders during this part of the game and, e.g. he decides when he wants to shoot or when to summon allies.
Find a new path up to the summit
Go left and destroy the red crystal. Defeat enemies and climb on the rock. Be careful, more enemies are on the top.
Open the gate and enter the familiar room with a crane. Follow the marker and destroy the roots to proceed. Then, use the elevator to go up.
More enemies await you here. Follow the path with red crystals and go through the narrow passage to proceed.
Frost Ancient - mini-boss fight
Defeat the Frost Ancient - avoid his laser and throw your axe at him when the boss reveals his "heart".

Destroy the branches and pull out a cart. Then, you have to move it in a such way that you would be able to open another red chest.
Walk on the edge and destroy more roots. Open a new red chest and move forward.
Open the bridge to Jotunheim
You reach Sindri's shop - buy a few items/upgrade your equipment and move on. There are a few enemies and a rift behind the gate.
Don't forget to open the purple chest - inside of it you can find the first piece of the cipher that unlocks Niflheim - this optional realm has been described on a separate page in this guide.
Go left and climb to the very top. Then, approach the rune and try to open the portal to Jotunheim.
Catch Baldur - boss Wight
A new confrontation with Baldur ( previously known as The Stranger) is also described on Baldur - the second encounter page in the Bosses chapter.
Baldur arrives and he captures Atreus. Kratos jumps on the dragon and start fighting with the god.
Use R1 and L1 to attack and counter the enemy.
The situation changes after a while - you now have to avoid Baldur's attacks. Dodge and parry his strikes. Counterattack when you get a chance. Soon, this short duel will end.
Watch the cut-scene - the action moves to Helheim.
