Energy Cell is a special battery in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, that powers all Zonai Devices. In our guide, we explain how to activate devices, how to charge the battery, and how to upgrade the Energy Cell in the Crystal Refinery. You will also learn how to obtain Crystallized Charges.

How to get an Energy Cell?

A new feature of Tears of the Kingdom are Zonai devices that can be combined with each other to create various machines, vehicles and weapons. Each device activated by Link requires energy for proper functioning. Energy Cell is the source of energy for Zonai devices.

You will receive the Energy Cell from the Maker Construct on Great Sky Island. He will explain the basic principles of Zonai devices and help with starting the first fan.

How to activate a Zonai device?

The first Zonai device you will come across in the game will be a fan. After receiving the Energy Cell, you can turn on the fan located on the raft and use it to sail across the icy lake.

To activate each Zonai device, simply hit it with your weapon. A battery icon will appear on the screen, showing the Energy Cell bar. When the energy runs out, the device will be automatically turned off. Wait a moment for the Energy Cell to recharge itself or do it with special items.

How to charge an Energy Cell?

There are several objects that you can use to charge the Energy Cell while using Zonai devices. These items, e.g. are dropped by the robots encountered on Great Sky Island and other sky islands.

Zonai Charges are one of the first items that you will get your hands on that can charge your Energy Cell. When using the Zonai device you notice that the battery is running low, open Link's equipment and use a few Zonai Charges for a quick recharge.

How to upgrade an Energy Cell?

There are several ways to improve Energy Cell and deal with the problem of your cell running out of energy in Zonai devices. Large Zonai Charge temporarily prevents the loss of Energy Cell power.

In the game you will also find Battery - one of Zonai devices that provides unlimited energy. Such a battery should be attached to the device you want to use. Unfortunately, just like with all Zonai devices, the Battery can only be used once. So if you attach it to some device, you won't be able to put it back in the backpack again. Battery, like all other Zonai items, can be drawn in the Device Dispenser or found lying on the ground.

What is the Crystal Refinery for?

If you want to permanently upgrade the Energy Cell and increase its capacity, you must go to a Crystal Refinery. One of these places is on Great Sky Island, in a cave near Nachoyah Shrine.

In Crystal Refinery, you can exchange Crystallized Charges for an Energy Cell upgrade. Crystallized Charge can be obtained by exchanging Zonite at the Forge Construct.

For 3 Zonaites you get 1 Crystallized Charge. To upgrade the Energy Cell, you will need as many as 100 Crystllized Charges.
