Cooper is the most famous Yakmel rancher in My Time at Sandrock. In the Fake Friend mission, you'll help the man build an artificial animal to decorate the ranch's surroundings, but before doing so, you'll visit Qi to devise a suitable scheme.

This page contains a walkthrough of the Fake Friend side quest, during which Cooper will ask you to build an artificial Yakmel in order to stop the herd from escaping the grazing area. We explain how to build the Fake Yakmel and where to get the necessary materials.

Starting the quest
You can only get this quest after completing Cooper's previous tasks, namely Keeping Up With the Yakmels and Ranch Part-time Work. Head to the stable at the Wandering Y Ranch and talk to the man. Cooper will be talkative as usual, so listen to him patiently. When he asks you to create an artificial Yakmel, accept the offer.
Ask Qi
First, you'll need a diagram for the Fake Yakmel. This is a task for the ever-reliable Qi. Go to the Research Center near Mi-an's Home and ask the man about the diagram. You will need 5 Data Discs, which you probably have on you, to create the diagram. If not, head to the Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins to dig up a few.
Wait for Diagram
You'll have to wait a day for the diagram to be ready, so you should pass the time by completing other activities. If you built the Stage Support instead of the Stage Backdrop during The Show Must Go On quest, go to the Commerce Guild to purchase the blueprint for the Copper Loudpeaker. The next day you will find the complete diagram in your mailbox.
Assemble and Install
Approach the Assembly Station and select the Fake Yakmel diagram. You will need the following materials to create the artificial animal:
- Basic Leather x4 - can be crafted with the Worktable with 12 Raw Animal Skins (which can be crafted at the Worktable with Damaged Animal Pelt) and 4 Sea Salts in total (which can be purchased at the Blue Moon To-Go and the By The Stairs store for 8 Gols per item). Basic Leather can also be purchased at the Tailor Made store for 32 Gols.
- Copper Stick x2 - can be crafted with the Processor with 4 Copper Bars in total (which can be smelted in the Furnace).
- Wooden Boards x2 - can be crafted with the Processor with 8 Wood in total, which can be obtained by cutting down Deadwood and nearby shrubs.
- Copper Loudspeaker x2 - can be crafted with the Worktable with 6 Bronze Bars in total (which can be smelted in the Furnace) and 2 Old Parts (which can be found in the Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins while digging).
- Engine - can found in the Eufaula Salvage Abandoned Ruins with the scanner.
Once you have collected all the materials, use them on the Fake Yakmel diagram and take the finished construction with you.
Install the Fake Yakmel on the hill by the stable. The quest marker will display the exact location. Once the Fake Yakmel is in place, Cooper will commend you on your work and invite you to a family dinner. This marks the end of the quest.
