In My Time at Sandrock, you don't have to resign yourself to walking everywhere on foot. With some patience and a bit of cash to spare, you can opt to rent a horse.
How do I rent a horse?

To rent a horse, first you need to locate Elsie, who can be found at the Wandering Y Store each morning. The building is a few steps east of the Commerce Guild and has a distinctive cow sign on top. She walks around Sandrock during the day, mostly around your workshop, so there's a good chance you'll run into her.
Elsie will show you around her family farm and introduce you to her father, Cooper. After the conversation, just use the store by the barn to rent a mount. The first week is free. Next time you try to rent a horse, you'll have to pay the fee, which varies from day to day.
Is horse riding worthwhile?

Since the fast travel system works well in My Time at Sandrock, the best use for the horse is for fun or as a change of pace. Crossing the desert on a mount is faster than on foot, but for longer distances it's best to use Yakmel Stations. Definitely take advantage of your initial free horse rental week.
