Nornir Chests are a type of collectibles appearing in GoW Ragnarok. This page explains how to open Nornir Chests in order to get Idunn Apples and Horns of Blood Mead. Among the actions needed, we can distinguish setting torches on fire, destroying runic seals, and positioning Spinning Runes. We also explain why some chests require the Draupnir Spear to be opened.
How to open a Nornir Chest?
Nornir Chests are one of the categories of collectibles encountered in every world. To open the chest, you need to destroy 3 rune stones, located in the vicnity of the chest.
Each Nornir Chest contains either an Idunn Apple, or a Horn of Blood Mead. With these items, you can increase your maximum health or Spartan Rage points.
The runes that you must destroy in order to open the chest are always nearby. Sometimes they may be hidden behind some obstacle, such as a geyser or a grate.
Nornir chests are divided into several types, each requiring different weapons to destroy or activate them. Your companion will tell you what to use to destroy the runes when you discover a new type of chest or explain that you don't yet have the tool you need.
Seals
Nornir chests with ordinary runestones are most likely the first type you will encounter in the game. To open the chest, break the seal with any weapon.
When you find the seal, strike the stone with the Leviathan Axe, the Blades of Chaos, shield, or even with your fists. If the runestone is out of your reach, hurl the Leviathan Axe at it.
Spinning Runes
You will encounter Nornir Chests protected by spinning runes in the first hours of the game. In order to unlock this type of chest, you need to place the runic symbols in the right order.
You do so by hitting the shields on the spinning runes. Adjust the symbols on these devices to match the runes displayed on the Nornir Chest. You aren't hindered by a time limit, so you can return to the chest and check for the symbols at any time.
Bells
Runes on bells are the most difficult type of Nornir Chests. All 3 bells must ring out at the same time for the chest to open.
Some bells will hang right by the Nornir Chest, while others may be hidden behind obstacles or require extra action to pick them up. Locate all 3 bells first and only then decide with which rune to start with.
Torch
Nornir Chests with runes on torches are another type of this find. You must find each of the 3 torches and set them on fire.
To set torches on fire, use the Blades of Chaos. If other torches are out of your reach, check whether there is a detonable item nearby, e.g. a red container.
Draupnir Spear
Some Nornir Chests are protected by more durable runes. Using the Leviathan Axe or the Blades of Chaos on them won't make a dent.
