In chapter 7 in the Castle region in RE4 Remake, you will encounter the problem of catapults bombarding the courtyard in Castle Gate. The walkthrough informs how to destroy catapults by detonating red barrels and how to stop the bombardment of Castle Gate to unlock safe access to the cannon.
Area with catapults - Castle Gate
When you start exploring the Castle in chapter 7, Leon and Ashley will reach the Castle Gate location - there are 4 catapults bombarding the area.
You have to destroy the catapults - use explosive red barrels. Don't rush to the first catapult, as the main courtyard will be bombarded. Leon and Ashley can easily be injured here. Wait for the end.

Catapult #1
Run straight and turn right. There should be 1 opponent on the stairs and defeat him.
Watch out for the second Zealot, who may appear behind you, i.e. by following the same path you ran along a moment earlier. He is planning to kidnap Ashley and must be stopped.
When you reach the top, turn right and then 180 degrees. Look at the higher walls and shoot the red barrel shown in the picture. This will destroy the first catapult.
Catapult #2
Turn 180 degrees again. Walk straight a little bit and turn to the right. There is a second red barrel on the higher walls and detonating it will destroy the second catapult.
Catapult #3
Turn 180 degrees and run straight towards the round part of the upper walls (there is a cannon here, which you will use later).
Turn 180 degrees again and take out a weapon with a scope. In the distance on the left you will notice a third barrel - you can destroy it with a long-range shot.
Catapult #4
In the part of the walls you currently are, find the place to jump down to the lower level - the picture shows it.
Run past the cannon and reach the ladder.
Run straight and along the boards. Turn 180 degrees. The fourth explosive barrel is on the wall far away so use a weapon with a scope again.
The Castle Gate location is now safe from bombarding. You can search for collectibles and move the cannon to the upper walls.
