Chainsaw Man is the first boss encountered in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Our guide shows when Chainsaw Man appears in Village Square in Chapter 1, whether he can be defeated, how to avoid chainsaw attacks, and where to find supplies that will help in fighting him.
The following walkthrough refers to the first clash with Chainsaw Man from the RE4 Remake game demo. After the release of the full version, we will expand it to include other confrontations with this opponent.
Encountering the boss in Village Square
Chainsaw Man is an elite opponent with a chainsaw. Your first encounter with him will take place in theVillage Square in Chapter 1.
To that moment, you'll only encounter standard villager opponents. Chainsaw Man appears by default when you try to enter the northern building of the village - a short cut-scene will depict his arrival.
Description for Chainsaw Man boss battle
Quickly run up to the first floor of the building, and run up to the windows to throw down the ladders leading to them (the villagers will take some time getting to them).
Look for the area in the screenshot above to find a hand grenade (smash the display case on the left) and a W-870 shotgun (take it off the rack). There is also shotgun ammo on a nearby bed.
You'll use the obtained weapons right away:
- Wait until Chainsaw Man destroys the ground-level door with his saw and toss the grenade at him - with luck, you'll also damage the villagers accompanying him.
- Place yourself by the stairs and fire at the Chainsaw Man climbing them - use Shotgun for this.
Sooner or later, Chainsaw Man will reach you - when he attempts an attack with the chainsaw, parry it with the Knife - make sure you're directly facing the boss and press L1/LB at the right moment.
Always keep him in front of you - if you turn your back to him, he may easily attack you and kill you without being able to parry the attack.
With firearm attacks, you can stun the boss temporarily - when that happens, a white icon will appear above his head. This is an opportunity to perform a Melee attack. Run up to the boss and perform the attack.
If Chainsaw Man falls to the ground, you can try a knife finisher - for that to happen, a knife icon must appear next to his head.
Killing Chainsaw Man during the Village Square encounter is not mandatory, as the battle can end after you have dealt enough damage to the boss and villagers. You'll know that you've won when Chainsaw Man kneels down and falls to the ground.
If you haven't defeated Chainsaw Man while still in the building, you can run outside. Know, however, that he can enter the rooftops and continue pursuing the hero. When the battle takes to the roofs, try to hit him from a distance and make use of a second grenade which can be found in the southern building of the village.
