Power Sources of classes Pillars Of Eternity 2 Guide and Walkthrough

In Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire you won't see attributes like mana or stamina - each class has its own Power Source which is necessary if you want to use abilities or cast spells. Power Sources for all the classes are divided as follows:

  1. Druid - Nature
  2. Priest - Faith
  3. Wizard - Arcane
  4. Fighter - Discipline
  5. Paladin - Zeal
  6. Rogue - Guile
  7. Monk - Wounds and Mortifications
  8. Cipher - Focus
  9. Chanter - Phrases
  10. Ranger - Bond
  11. Barbarian - Rage

Each class starts with three Power Source points. How can you increase them?

  1. A character with a single class receives one point to Power Source pool each two levels.
  2. A multiclass character receives one point to Power Source pool in both classes each three levels.

Power Source points are replenished after each fight but the way they act differs between classes:

There is also another way of restoring Power Source points. This ability is called Empower and it can replenish half of your maximum Power Source pool.

For example - a single class Wizard at level five can use:

  2. Two level two spells.
  3. One level three spell.

A single class Wizard at level seven can use:

  1. Two level one spells.
  2. Two level two spells.
  3. Two level three spells.
  4. One level four spell.

Fighter, Paladin, Rogue, Monk, Ranger, Barbarian

Every ability depletes a few Power Source points. - Power Sources of classes - Basics - Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Game Guide
Every ability depletes a few Power Source points.

These classes have the simplest Power Source system - each ability depletes a certain number of Power Source points. You can't use abilities if your pool is empty.

Note - As for a Monk, the description above refers to Mortifications. Monks have one more Power Source - Wounds that are gained by receiving damage. Wounds can also be spent on abilities.

Cipher

A Cipher starts a fight with an incomplete number of Power Source points - Focus - Power Sources of classes - Basics - Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Game Guide

A Cipher starts a fight with an incomplete number of Power Source points - Focus. Each attack with a weapon fills up Focus which can be spent on spells.

Chanter

Unlike other classes, a Chanter starts a fight with no Power Source points (Phrases) at all - Power Sources of classes - Basics - Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Game Guide

Unlike other classes, a Chanter starts a fight with no Power Source points (Phrases) at all. Use Chants to replenish them - abilities that you can buy when you level up. After each level up, you can see the window presented in the picture above - the marked left side shows Invocations, the right shows Chants (but not only them, this side also has other abilities).

Take a look at the part marked in the picture above - Power Sources of classes - Basics - Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Game Guide

Take a look at the part marked in the picture above. The icon on the left contains Invocations which require Phrases. The icon on the right has Chants that fill up your Phrases. Click on this icon to open the menu where you can create "prepared chants".

You will see the window above - Power Sources of classes - Basics - Pillars Of Eternity 2 Deadfire Game Guide

You will see the window above. To use Chants, you have to prepare them first by using known phrases - this is the only way to sing Chants. Place the icons in an order in which you want to sing Chants. Each use of a "prepared chant" restores Phrases and lets you use Invocations.
