Scripted Interactions are a means of describing situations encountered in the world of Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire. In opposition to other games, you won't encounter cut-scenes - the action is conveyed through the means of text. Scripted Interactions describe important moments of the plot e.g. during the conversations with deities, but also simple interactions found during the exploration of the levels.
Passive skills and choosing a party member
This does not mean that you won't take an active role during the events. It's the complete opposite - the scripted interactions often offer a few options to choose from. The success (or a failure) of the decision is influenced by the following passive abilities:
Influences the ability to use various bluffs during the conversation
Useful when negotiating and solving various conflicts.
The knowledge of history and culture of various races found in the game world.
Allows the player to discover real motivations of the interlocutor, his lies and emotions.
Used to intimidate other characters during conversations through threats and extortion.
A young field of knowledge that focuses on adra, animancy and other dimensions.
The knowledge of various religions and beliefs found in the game world.
The so-called "street smarts" that can be used during the conversations with unsavory types.
Enables the player to engage in conversations and scripted interactions connected with nature.
Every ability is useful in different situations, so make sure to develop passive abilities of each party member.
Scripted interactions often leave you with a choice - you going to have to make a decision e.g. to search the area, use diplomacy, or sneak up to the enemy. These options require different passive abilities - after choosing a desired option, you need to choose which character will perform the action. Of course, it is best to choose a character who has the chosen ability - greater the given ability is developed, the bigger the chance of a successful roll.
Sometimes, an action can only be completed by the Watcher - your character. In such situations, you are left with no choice than to send him to complete the roll regardless of his passive abilities.
Exemplary results of scripted interactions
In scripted interactions, every choice has its consequences - here are a few exemplary results of scripted interactions:
- You've managed to sneak behind the opponent's back - you are now able to take a better position before combat. On the other hand, if the opponent detected you, you'll begin the battle automatically, without having an opportunity to prepare.
- You've managed to avoid combat through diplomacy or coercion.
- You've managed to impress the encountered person - you'll receive a special reward.
- You've reached a hidden area or managed to skip a large portion of the journey.
- You've been ambushed and became surrounded.
