Pillars Of Eternity 2: How to import saves from Pillars of Eternity? Pillars Of Eternity 2 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 20 November 2022

Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire allows importing old save files (saves) from the original game, including those from the DLC: White March. This way the game will remember your previous choices. This has an influence on the events happening over the course of the game; encountered characters; and dialogue options. Every time the game makes use of the previous choices, you can see a special icon: a Roman numeral (I) on a blue background.

The creators included three ways in which previous choices can be introduced into the new storyline. You can choose one of them after the initial few minutes of gameplay (you should see the window shown in the screenshot above).

Importing save files from the original game

This is the best choice, if you still have the save files from the original game and the White March DLC. This way all of your previous choices will be included into the new storyline.

Attention - in order to work properly, the save files have to be stored in the default save folder, that is in the following directory: "C:\Users\[user name]\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity".

Creating your own story

Don't worry, if you haven't got the original save files. In this case, you can always create your own story from scratch - the robust creator will allow you to make all the important choices once again. To open this tool, click "Options" in the main menu and then "Events from PoE I". After making the final decisions and giving a name to your story, it will be displayed in a menu shown in the screen above.

Choosing a predefined story

For those who haven't played the original and for the players who want to get started as soon as possible, the creators have prepared six predefined stories. These storylines range from those including neutral plot outcomes, to more tragic ones, in which e.g. some characters are dead. The most reasonable choice is to select one of the first five stories - story number six includes all the worst choices from the previous instalment and is not recommended for newcomers.

The following is the list of predefined stories provided by the creators:

Name

In game description

Benevolent soul

During the events of Pillars of Eternity the souls of the hollowborn Free Palatinate of Dyrwood has been restored to them in accordance with the promise given to Hylei. Benevolence and compassion were shown to the characters met, as well as generosity and kindness to those who were in need.

Fair and Balanced

During the events of Pillars of Eternity the souls of the hollowborn have been returned to the Cycle in accordance with the promise given to Berath. Most of the other decisions were fair and balanced, based on reason and justice rather than personal sympathies or emotion.

Survival of the Fittest

During the events of Pillars of Eternity the souls of the hollowborn were used to strengthen the Free Palatinate of Dyrwood, in accordance with the promise given to Galawin. Most other choices focused on gaining more power, strengthening allies, and weakening enemies.

Dark Times

During the events of Pillars of Eternity the souls of the hollowborn were disintegrated and their essence scattered in accordance with the promise given to Rymrgand. In an attempt to end everything, physical destruction and spiritual annihilation marked your path.

Keeper of Secrets

During the events of Pillars of Eternity the souls of the hollowborn were to be disintegrated and their essence scattered in accordance with the promise given to Rymrgand, but in the end they were submitted to Woedica. Keeping - both divine and personal - secrets was supported.

Everything Bad

All the choices made were bad. Every god was given a promise, after what the souls of the hollowborn were sent to a random place. All of the companions died. Every single quest ended in the worst possible way. Every possible mistake was made during the hollowborn crisis events. This option is not recommended for new players.
