Dredge The Pale Reach: How to unlock the Icebreaker? Dredge guide, tips

The Icebreaker allows you to break through ice blocks in the Pale Reach DLC for the Dredge game. From the description in the tutorial, you will learn how to mount the Icebreaker by collecting Icebreaker Plow Half and Icebreaker Bracing parts.

When you first reach the Pale Reach in the Dredge DLC, you cannot yet explore 100% of the map. Our guide comes to the rescue and explains how to build and install an icebreaker on a ship. You will find out where two parts of the Icebreaker are hidden: Plow Half and Icebreaker Bracing. We also briefly describe how the icebreaker works and whether it requires pressing additional buttons.

Obtaining 3 Icebreaker parts

  1. You will learn about the possibility of installing an icebreaker on your ship right after reaching the Pale Reach DLC region. The Traveling Merchant from Bleak Pontoon at the northern end of the new archipelago will tell you about it. There are 3 parts to obtain and you can pick them up in any order.
  2. The first part, Plow Half, can be found in Shapes in the Deep next to Central Camp in the middle of the map. You can obtain this part right after unlocking access to the main part of the DLC region.

  1. The second Plow Half can be fished in Shapes in the Deep next to Western Bearing in the western part of the map. You can get there after Narwhal destroys the western ice barrier when you're delivering fish.

  1. Icebreaker Bracing can be fished in Shapes in the Deep next to Eastern Terminus in the eastern part of the map. You can get there after Narwhal destroys the eastern ice barrier when you're delivering fish.

How to build an icebreaker?

  1. You must return to Bleak Pontoon after obtaining each piece. After docking, select Icy Worksite.
  2. You must move the parts to the left field and place them in proper places. These are 2 Icebreaker Plow Half parts and 1 Icebreaker Bracing part. The final outcome is shown in the attached picture.

  1. A short cutscene will play and you'll learn that an icebreaker has been installed on the ship you are using. It is indestructible and does not require any repairs in the future. It will stay with you until the very end of the DLC.

Using the icebreaker in Pale Reach

  1. The icebreaker allows you to break through smaller ice blocks; an example is shown in the picture. Just collide with them; you don't have to press any additional buttons.
  2. You cannot destroy large ice blocks - islands that are part of the Pale Reach archipelago. They are treated as dry land and will remain intact.

  1. After you get the icebreaker, explore the entire Pale Reach map again. Look for places where ice blocks prevent access to areas with collectibles and important quest items (example in the picture).
  2. Icebreaker can also help you create new shortcuts, including the one next to Bleak Pontoon in the northern part of the region.
