Diablo 4: How to unlock Nightmare World Tier 3? Diablo 4 guide

In Diablo 4, you can switch between difficulty levels, but World Rank 3 and World Rank 4 are locked by default. On this page of the guide, we explain how to unlock Nightmare World Tier 3, how it affects combat, and what other gameplay elements will become available on it.
How to choose World Tier 3?
Tiers 3 and 4 are initially locked - you cannot choose the hardest 2 difficulty levels right away. You must play on Tier 1 or 2 first to unlock them.
Here is the list of steps required to unlock Tier 3 (Nightmare):
- Complete the main storyline on any difficulty
- switch to Tier 2 (Veteran);
- complete the dungeon under the Cathedral of Light in the city of Kyovashad in the Fractured Peaks.
From now on, you can switch to Tier 3. It is designed for heroes with levels 50-70. We do not advise you to choose it if you are not yet level 50, because you won't be able to handle most of the monsters. Of course, it is also important to create a good build.

Combat on World Tier 3
- Enemies are stronger and deal more damage.
- Enemies ignore 20% of the hero's resistances.
- Champions appear in the game world - they have a much higher resistance to damage.
- You get 100% more experience for defeating enemies.
- Dead enemies drop 15% more gold.
What is the new content of World Tier 3?
One of the more important Tier 3 differences appears when playing at lower Tiers. You won't be able to unlock the 4th and 5th Renown level for a given region and the rewards associated with them (e.g. increasing the Obols limit).
Other new elements of Tier 3 include:
- You can find sacred and unique items that didn't appear on lower difficulty levels.
- You can obtain Nightmare Sigils which are used to open Nightmare Dungeons. They are characterized by a higher level of challenge than standard dungeons, but they also allow you to get valuable loot and more XP.
- Helltides may appear in the game world. These are timed events with strong opponents that will drop valuable loot. Thanks to Helltides, you can also collect the Cinder currency and spend it to open special chests.
