Last update: 11 May 2016

You can use the Shipyard in between the missions of the campaign or skirmish scenario. You can repair your ships after a battle as well as modify, develop, and enhance your ships. You can also add new ships to your fleet if your admiral reaches new levels. You can rename your ships here, learn their detailed statistics, as well as swap a unit with another ship within the same class.

Repairs

Repairing isn't expensive, especially of the smaller ships. You can bring scrapped units back to duty here. In case of a full repair, the cost rises considerably, but during a campaign, it's better to spend some Renown Points. You can repair all classes of ships from Light Cruisers to Battleships. If a unit needs repairs, a red wheel will appear on its icon in the Shipyard.

Modifications

The Shipyard offers four separate sections for unit modification. You cover the costs with modification points that each ship earns with reaching a new level. Different points belong to each of those sections so you cant spend all of them in only one section. Some of the ships have modification points from the very beginning, so you can customize the ship at level one. Support ships can only be modified in one section, called Upgrades. Heavier ships can be modified in all four areas.

Expanding the fleet

Its availability depends on the development of your admiral. After reaching a higher level, an option of buying a new ship slot will appear on the ship list. It can be a higher class ship, or another unit within the same class. As soon as the possibility to buy a new ship occurs, you have to do it. At the same time, it also requires some Renown Points - each slot is paid for individually. After unlocking the slot you can choose from a list of available units within the given class.

A special prompt will inform you of the possibility of buying a new slot. - Basic information - Shipyard - Battlefleet Gothic: Armada - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Renaming the ship

You can rename any ship in your fleet, which can make orientation on the battlefield easier. Each ship has a pre-determined name, but you only have to left-click the name of a ship to change it. Hit Enter and the name will be changed. The name you chose will appear on the list in the Shipyard, while assembling your fleet before a battle, and in game's HUD during a battle. It's particularly useful in online modes.

Swapping a unit

You should not overuse this option. You can swap any ship for another, within the same class. It's useful when you're disappointed with your current ship, or repairing it would cost too much. If you whish to dismiss a unit, it won't be available any more. In exchange, you get a brand new ship, which is on the same level, with equal amount of modification points available (you still have to pay for the modifications). The modifications done to the retired ship are not refunded, so think twice before dismissing a unit. You can swap Light Cruisers and heavier ships.
