Underground in Division The Division Guide

Last update: 18 December 2017

Tom Clancy's The Division Underground mode was available previously, but it was update 1.8 which truly modified it. Old Directives were replaced with new ones, which eventually provided the player with new options, and brought a breath of fresh air to the gameplay.

Entrance to the Terminal.

In order to reach the Underground, you need to get to the main hideout (Base of Operations). Once you pass the main entrance, go straight. Now, run through a long corridor, ignore doors on both sides, and go downstairs. At the end of your path, you will find a Terminal (you can find more about it in chapter "Base of Operations" - "Terminal"). All you need to do is run downstairs and activate the elevator. Here you can launch an Underground Operation.

How to use Underground mode?

Use the computer to operate this mode.

In the middle of the room, there is a large computer - you can use it to operate this mode. Interact with it and adjust the gameplay settings according to your preferences. You can adjust the following settings:

  1. Difficulty level - there are three levels to choose from: Normal, Hard and Challenging. The selected difficulty level affects the amount of experience you can get.
  2. Directives - they affect the gameplay to a great extent, and make it possible to receive additional experience points.
  3. Underground Operation length- you can choose 1-, 2- or 3-phase Operations, which last more or less 15, 30 and 45 minutes. The longer the mission is, the more experience points one can receive.

Now, all you need to do is confirm your choice, go to the neighboring room, and take the train that will drop you at the starting point. You can also use the matchmaking option, and let other players join you.

Underground mode - tips

The Underground mode is a perfect place to collect better equipment. - Underground in Division - Game modes - Tom Clancys The Division Game Guide
The Underground mode is a perfect place to collect better equipment.

When fighting in Underground, it's wise to follow certain tips:

  1. In this mode, the player receives additional experience (Underground Ranks). For each level you earn, you will be rewarded with equipment cache. Inside, you can find two High-End or Set items.
  2. One should use Directives. They greatly affect the gameplay, and by improving character development, they increase gathered experience points. In order to activate a Directive, one needs Directive Intel - these "items" can be collected during missions in this area.
  3. Complete regular Underground missions. You can activate them from a computer in Underground, or the world map. They offer additional items, Phoenix Credits and Directive Intel.
  4. It's possible that you will run into Hunters during a mission in Underground. If your mission suddenly stops (you will not receive a new objective), or the vision gets disrupted (like when you get hit with an EMP grenade), know that Hunters are nearby. You can read more about them in a separate chapter of this game guide.
  5. Underground is an ideal place for those players who want to acquire better equipment. This is especially true for players who just advanced to level 30, or were away from the game for several months. Spending just couple hours in Underground will prepare your character for other game modes.
  6. If you are planning to play solo, use Recovery Link as your main ability. In case of death, your character will get back to his feet automatically (the ability triggers automatically on lethal damage). It's especially useful when facing Hunters.
