The Tinker's Trinket | Jobs - Basso Thief Guide

Employer: Basso [Stonemarket - Basso's Office]

Availability: You get the opportunity to start this mission, after you have completed the sixth chapter of the game. You need to meet up with Basso again, at the Crippled Burrick tavern.

Your destination has been presented in the above screenshot - it is located in the southern part of Old Quarter, close to the passage to the cathedral in [Stonemarket - Grandmauden]. To learn more about the suggested way to reach this area, see the page entitled Reach the cathedral in Old Quarter. I recommend that, before you start this mission, you make sure that Garret has the Wrench and, at least, two water arrows, on him. All of the items will be useful for reaching the starting point in a safe way.

I recommend that you approach the starting point from the South-Eastern side. Start at the back of the watchtower (the one with the guard armed with the crossbow), located in the central part of Old Quarter. Explore the area at the back of the tower, while avoiding the guard, who is circling around it. You need to locate the entrance to the venting shaft, shown in the above screenshot and unlock it with the wrench.

You need to hit the switch that is similar to a light switch

After you walk through the shaft, you will emerge near the smithy [Stonemarket - Shemenov Blade & Filigree]. Stop at the entrance with grates and select the bow from the inventory. Shoot any arrow towards the switch, which will open the grate. Enter the building and collect the Cup - 6G.

Use the water arrow to put out fire

Approach the hole in the floor and jump down, carefully, because you will land behind the backs of two bandits and you cannot be spotted by them. Prepare the bow again, but select the water arrow this time, and aim at the fire here. Right after you put it out, go to the door on the right a (walk around the enemies on the right) and use the lockpicks, quickly, on the door. To do that quickly, use Focus, although you would be able to make it even without it.

The item that you are looking for is in the chest

Walk into the small room and explore it thoroughly. The medal (General's Medal - 50G) is in the chest on the left but, apart from that, you can also find a Pocket Watch - 50G and a note (Stonemarket - Thief-Taker General's Orders) here. You now need to leave this place safely. If you have been quick enough, while looting the place, you may manage to escape before one of the bandits starts fire again. If you do not, use the water arrow again, or help yourself with a throwable. Regardless of the course of the action, this mission ends.
