On this page of the guide to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, you will find a short description about the fight with Giant Buzz Blob.

Giant Buzz Blob is the first Mini-Boss in the optional level of the game - Color Dungeon. Avoid his lightning bolts and sprinkle him with Magic Powder. When he turns into a big blue ball, then you can finally attack him with your sword. In the form of a blue ball, he will jump at you. Avoid his attacks and hit him as much as you can. If he changes to his previous form, sprinkle him with powder again.

Upon his defeat, the door to the Nightmare's Key will open.
