The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an action-adventure game displayed in a top-down perspective. During the game, you travel through an open world filled with all kinds of activities. The whole adventure boils down to exploring the open world, where you will find all sorts of dungeons, battle the encountered enemies, and solve puzzles.

The combat itself is purely arcade in nature. In real-time, you only need to attack enemies with weapons and avoid their strikes. In addition to standard opponents, the game also includes a variety of various bosses.

One of the most important aspects of the game is the exploration of dungeons. They are divided into a number of smaller sections. Some of them are available immediately. The rest of the halls has to be opened. To do this, you will need keys. These can be obtained via environmental puzzles or defeating enemies.

Due to the fact that Link can jump, the game also comes with some platform sequences.
