Character development in New World can be divided into several elements. First of all, you gain new levels and thus get points for which you can improve character attributes. Every time you level up, you get 3 points that can be assigned to 5 attributes. The choice should be dictated by the weapon used because the abilities increase their damage (the exception is the Constitution). Attributes are related to the following weapons:

  1. Strength - main attribute for Sword and Shield, Great Axe, War Hammer, and Hatchet. Secondary attribute for the Spear.
  2. Dexterity - main attribute for Spear, Musket, Rapier, and Bow. Secondary attribute for Sword and Shield, and Hatchet.
  3. Intelligence - main attribute for Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet. Secondary attribute for Rapier and Musket.
  4. Focus - main attribute for Life Staff.
  5. Constitution - increases the character's maximum health level. Doesn't affect weapons.

You can reset the points assigned to the attributes for free up to level 20. After level 20, you will have to pay for respec with gold.

The maximum character level in New World is 60. Once you have reached this level, you will no longer be able to increase attributes (Strength, Intelligence, or Dexterity). However, you can keep increasing weapon masteries and character professions.
