On this page of the Hogwarts Legacy guide, we have a walkthrough for the Trials of Merlin main quest. You will find out when the quest can be unlocked and where the stranger (Nora Treadwell) is staying, how to defeat the magic-wielding thieves, how to get mallowsweet leaves and how to complete Merlin's first puzzle.
Rewards for completing the quest
- XP;
- Merlin puzzles on the world map unlocked - they are optional activities and completing them allows you to collect XP and increase the hero's inventory;
- a new main quest unlocked - it can be 1 out of the 4 main quests based on your House.
Help the stranger
This quest becomes available after you meet Natty during The Girl from Uagadou main quest. To the east of Lower Hogsfield, there will be a marker of a woman who needs help.
Once you get there, you'll have to deal with Dark Wizards-thieves. During fights, use spells of the same colors as the shields that the enemies will surround themselves with (e.g. Incendio to destroy the red shield). Also, activate a block (Protego) to stop and potentially deflect their ranged attacks.
Speak with the stranger
The rescued woman is Nora Treadwell and you will be able to help her solve Merlin's puzzle.
Reach the indicated chest. Inside you will find Mallowsweet Leaves - it is an ingredient needed to unlock Merlin's Trials.
Solve Merlin's Trial
The puzzle can be solved to the right of the tent with the crates with mallowsweet. It is a unique mandatory puzzle that will advance you in the main story.
Approach the circle on the ground and spend 1 mallowsweet. You will need mallowsweet leaves for every puzzle found later in the game.
The solution for each Merlin Trial is unique. In this case, you'll need to use the Incendio spell - make sure you have it active in your spellset.
Light 3 torches with Incendio. Watch the cut-scene of completing the puzzle. Talk to Nora to finish the quest.
