How to unlock the Daedalian Keys quest?

The quest introducing you to the Daedalian Keys mechanic and collectible can be initiated by talking to Nellie Oggspire, right after getting back from your first visit to Hogsmeade (completing the Welcome to Hogsmeade quest). This female member of the Gryffindor house can be found in Transfiguration Courtyard in Hogwarts ( The Astronomy Wing larger area).

Nellie will give you the approximate location of the first key - it will be in Astronomy Tower. Once there, you'll get acquainted with the mechanic and the loop that involves Daedalian Keys - finding them, following them, and opening a related cabinet.

What are the uses of Daedalian Keys and House Tokens?

Daedalian Keys are used to unlock locked cabinets that contain House Tokens inside. There are 16 key - cabinet pairs to find and unlock in Hogwarts Castle.

Obtained House Tokens can be placed in the chest in your dormitory. For collecting all the tokens, you will receive an outfit with the logo of your house .

Opening cabinets

To unlock a cabinet (containing the House Token) you need to find the related Daedalian Key. Locating Keys is not easy, as they blend with the environment well aside from the small light and sounds they emit - we recommend using Revelio to make matters easier.

Once a Key is located, it will start to fly away - you need to follow it. Follow the Key and it will take you to the associated cabinet.

Upon interacting with the cabinet, a mini-game is initiated. To complete it, you need to press the attack button right as the key goes through the middle of the keyhole- doing this successfully opens the cabinet.

Daedalian Key #1

Finding the first key is a quest event taking place during The Daedalian Keys quest.

Travel to Astronomy Tower in Astronomy Wing. As you climb the stairs, you'll encounter the first Daedalian Key. It will start flying towards the nearby cabinet, leaving a golden trail behind it. Follow it and open the cabinet.

Daedalian Key #2

The second key and the associated cabinet are nearby Defence Against The Dark Arts Classroom Floo Flame in the Astronomy Wing. Near the entrance to the classroom, there are stairs leading to the floor below. Follow the stairs and reach the animal skeleton on the table - the Daedalian Key is there.

Follow the key to the upper floor. The related cabinet is at the end of the corridor on the right.

Daedalian Key #3

For the third Key, use the Grand Staircase Tower Floo Flame in The Grand Staircase area. As you emerge from the Flame, turn right and go below.

Key #3 is not far from the puzzle door, on the railing. Follow the key even further down. If you can't seem to find the Key or the cabinet, use Revelio.

Daedalian Key #4

Travel to Quad Courtyard Floo Flame in The Grand Staircase area. After arriving, go right and climb the stairs up. Locate the Key using Revelio.

All you have to do now is to follow the Key which will take you to the cabinet, which is near the door and the staircase.

Daedalian Key #5

Another Daedalian Key location is in Bell Tower Wing. Teleport to Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame, turn left, climb the stairs and go through the door directly opposite you.

You'll find the Key right beyond the door, near the railing. Follow the key (it will take you up) and look for the cabinet to the left.

Daedalian Key #6

This time, teleport to The Great Hall Floo Flame. Go through the central door and continue forward until you reach railings and the staircase. This is the location of the Key.

Go down the stairs and turn right. The cabinet is behind a boar statue.

Daedalian Key #7

Key #7 is also in The Great Hall. Look for it at the fireplace, not far from the tables where the students sit.

Don't leave The Great Hall just yet - you'll notice stairs on your left. Follow them upstairs. The cabinet is on the upper floor - should be right before you.

Daedalian Key #8

For Daedalian Key #8, travel to The Map Chamber Floo Flame. After appearing in the location, turn around and climb the stairs up. Go through the door, go down the stairs and continue to the corridor in front of you.

The Key is there, and leads to the cabinet near the barrels.

Daedalian Key #9

For Key #9, once again travel to The Map Chamber Floo Flame. Go up the stairs again, but this time follow the corridor. You should encounter a sleeping dragon statue. The Key is next to it.

Now all that is left to do is to follow the key and open the cabinet.

Daedalian Key #10

Key #10 is in The Library Annex area, in Potions Classroom to be exact. You should see a large door in front of you - go through them and in the next room, on the left, you'll see the Key.

Follow the key down the stairs. The cabinet will be in front of you.

Daedalian Key #11

For the next Key, teleport to Central Hall Floo Flame (also in The Library Annex area). Go down the stairs, then turn right - the Key will be next to the staircase.

While following it, you'll climb the stairs, go forward, and go through a descending corridor. The associated cabinet is on the right, near the puzzle door.

Daedalian Key #12

Same as with Key #11, you need to travel to Central Hall Floo Flame. This time, however, go up the stairs. On the upper floor, there will be stairs on the right. The Key is between them (behind the first staircase).

The path of the Key will lead down the stairs. The cabinet is on the right, at the three moving paintings.

Daedalian Key #13

Travel to Library Floo Flame.

Look for the Key to the left from the main entrance. Help yourself with Revelio if you're having a hard time locating the key.

The cabinet to which the key will take you is further into the library, in the middle of the corridor.

Daedalian Key #14

Travel to Faculty Tower Floo Flame (The South Wing area). Go forward and turn right passing a door (Gladwin Moon can be found standing next to it - the easiest way of obtaining this key is completing his mission (the one where you learn Alohomora). Now go up to the first floor. Key #14 is found here.

Finally, go back down to the ground floor. The cabinet is at the stairs on the left.

Daedalian Key #15

Teleport to Hospital Wing Floo Flame. Turn around to see a staircase and go down using it. Now, on the right, in the corridor leading to large gear mechanisms, you'll find the Key.

The cabinet to which the Key leads you is on the floor from which you've descended.

Daedalian Key #16

To obtain the final Key, you need to have Alohomora (you need to learn it from Gladwin Moon by completing the quest for him - we've mentioned this quest on this page earlier). Travel to Clock Tower Courtyard Floo Flame (The South Wing area).

Approach the door on the right and use Alohomora to open it.

Once the path is open, go up the stairs - Key #16 is found there.

Follow the key upstairs. The cabinet is on the left side of the corridor.
