This page focuses on whether Hogwarts Legacy has manual saves. You will find out if the game has an autosave system and whether you will be able to create your own save file at any time. Moreover, we explain the uses of manual saves (e.g. reverting a decision in an important choice scene).
Manual saves
In Hogwarts Legacy, you can manually save your game from the Pause Menu . In the same window, you can load the latest save or select a save from the list of created ones.
There are different save slots available and you should use them. Manual saves can primarily protect you from a wrong decision at an important choice. We recommend saving the game before starting each quest and before the last meeting with the quest giver. This will protect you from a bad decision - the consequences of your choices may involve depriving you of additional rewards or even valuable unique spells in extreme cases.
Note - during some quests, the game may be resumed not in the place where you've saved it. For example, if a mission involves exploring a dungeon and you've saved the game in the course of it, then after loading the game you may be taken back to the dungeon entrance, having to redo the last steps.
Save Unavailable
When attempting to manually save a game, you may receive a message that manual saves are unavailable (Save Unavailable) and this means you need to make use of automatic saves.
For example, you cannot save during the prologue i.e. during the Road to Hogwarts story quest. Creating manual saves will be unlocked once you find yourself for the first time in the chambers of the chosen House in Hogwarts. Similar situations may appear in chosen moments in the further parts of the game.
Automatic saves and time since last save
The game automatically saves your progress in the background - autosaves are signaled by the appearance of a white icon. They occur, for example, after reaching a new location or completing a quest. Autosaves are performed on several different slots and you can choose between them in the loading window
When exiting the game to the main menu, you will receive information about how much time has passed since the last save . If the game says it's a few minutes, try to reach a new checkpoint or manually save the game.
