What are the Golden Keys in Borderlands 3?
Golden Keys are unique items in Borderlands 3 that are used to open special chests. Your current number of Golden Keys is displayed, e.g. in the inventory in the bottom right corner of the screen (next to the information about the number eridium).
How to get Golden Keys?
Golden keys can't be obtained as loot. You can obtain them by redeeming Shift Codes - more information about them can be found on What are Shift Codes? page.
Once you enter the correct code that entitles you to receive a Golden Key, you get a gift that can be picked up in the Mail tab in Social menu. Detailed instructions on how to receive messages in the game you will find on How to collect and receive mail? page.

Below we present a few "universal" Shift Codes for obtaining Golden Keys. You can enter them in the Social menu in the SHiFT section:

Where to use Golden Keys?
Get the Keys back here to the Sanctuary, the spaceship that serves as the heroes' base. One of the middle decks of the ship has a Golden Chest.
You can use Golden Keys to open a Golden Chest. However, each Golden Key is lost after use. Every time you open a Golden Chest, you will find random epic (purple) loot - you can equip it, leave for later or sell.
Items found in the Golden Chest are always at a similar level as your character. We don't recommend using all the Keys at the beginning of the campaign, because you will only receive low-level gear. It is better to wait until the endgame and/or the moment of reaching level 50. Thanks to this, you will receive guaranteed high-level items.
