On this guide page for Borderlands 3, we have included information on how to unlock the ability to use artifacts. This is problematic because the artifact slot is initially locked.
Artifact slot is initially unavailable, and this is despite the fact that over time you will start to get artifacts along with other loot. You can save the best ones for later and use them once this slot becomes available.
To unlock the artifact slot, you need to complete Cold as the Grave main quest on the planet Eden-6. As a reminder, the main part of this quest is to defeat Graveward, a giant creature guarding the access to the Vault on Eden-6. After winning the battle, you must wait for the large portal to appear.
Go through it - you will reach Vault of the Graveward. Get to the pedestal and take the artifact - Eridian Synchronizer.
From now on, you can place artifacts in the newly unlocked inventory slot. Artifacts offer passive bonuses which means that you don't need to activate them.
Look for the purple epic artifacts and choose those that offer the most useful stat bonuses. For example, if you don't have a lot of HP, select the artifact that increases the health bar and improves its regeneration rate.
