In this chapter of the guide to Baldurs Gate 3 you will find essential information about the specializations of Ranger - one of the many character classes available in the game.
Once you reach the third character experience level in Baldurs Gate 3, your character will be given the option to choose one of two specializations (sub-classes): Hunter or Beast Master. Each specialization will quite significantly affect the playing style of the character, so it is worth thinking carefully before making such an important choice.
If you choose the Hunter specialization, your character will become more effective in hunting the most dangerous creatures of Faerun. You will be able to choose one of three available passive abilities.
- Colossus Slayer: once per turn, your weapon attack deals additional 1d8 damage if the target doesn't have maximum number of health points;
- Giant Killer: if your character is attacked by a large or even larger creature, the character can use an reaction to perform a melee attack;
- Horde Breaker: target two nearby creatures and attack them one after another.
The Horde Breaker will be the best choice as it enables you to perform two attacks at the price of one. This skill will become handy as you will participate in plenty of battles while exploring the world of Baldurs Gate 3.
If you choose the Beast Master specialization, your character will be able to summon an animal companion who will travel with you and help you in combat.
Effect: you gain an animal companion who participates in your adventures and fights by your side.
