Can the scanner room detect a Ghost Leviathan?

Unfortunately, no. The scanning room won't tell you where the Ghost Leviathans are. To find them, you can use cameras, which you can leave as a surveillance network in specific areas after you've more or less localized the beast.

What happens when I leave the map boundary?

The map covers roughly 2000 meters in each direction from the starting point. The first time you leave the map area, you'll see a message, informing you that you've reached the area known as the Crater Edge. It's a completely barren area of unspecified depth.

If you stay outside the map boundary for too long, a Ghost Leviathan will spawn in your near vicinity, followed by two more similar creatures if you still refuse to leave.

Whats the maximum range of a scanner room?

The scanner range upgrades stack, which means that you can install them in all upgrade slots and reap the benefits. With all the upgrades, the scanner will have an effective range of roughly 500 meters.
