Tarjan is another boss you will be facing during Bard's Tale IV. You will be fighting him during Death to the Mad God quest. Tarjan himself is not a strong enemy, but he is protected by an add, which gives him the invulnerability.

You will learn whether you will deal damage to the add by looking at his health bar.

Killing Tarjan requires you to kill the summoned add first. However, he is only vulnerable to critical attacks and most of the attacks will just fail to deal damage to him. The best character class for this encounter is the rogue. He deals the highest critical damage in the game, allowing you to slowly, but gradually weaken the enemy. During that time, Tarjan will be constantly attacking your team, applying the burning status effect. You need to prepare healing potions beforehand to prevent your party members from dying.

Once the add is destroyed, you will be able to take out Tarian. You can deal damage to him with any attack type. He has a weak armor that is easy to break. Tarjan will not be changing the type of attack during the entire encounter, so do not expect a particularly diverse fight.
