Managing Teams in The Bard's Tale 4 Game The Bard's Tale 4 Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 20 September 2018

Playing The Bard's Tale IV you can configure and alter your squad to your heart's content. As the game progresses, you should gather as many different party members as you can. The chapter below will let you learn all the information concerning this problem.

Adding new party members

Gaining new potential party members is crucial. This allows you to configure character classes and introduce slight alterations within the class specializations. Each alteration in the team changes the skill set available in combat.

There are two ways of getting new team members. The first of them is recruiting characters during story missions. The character will be automatically added to the potential party members, and the team modification panel will prompt up. You can then add the new character to the team or leave your party unchanged.

The other possibility is using the mercenary tokens. These items are awarded for completing quests, but can also be found during exploration. In exchange, you can manipulate the character roster in the Adventurer's Guild. In this case, you can choose the character parameters yourself. Such as character class or race. You will also get a certain number of skill points (around what the rest of the team has available).

Of course, you cannot get new team members ad infinitum. There's a limited number of people in your party. After filling the entire roster, you cannot add any more characters.

Editing active team

You can switch up the team in two cases: Once a new team member is recruited, or after selecting the right option in the Adventurer's Guild. In both cases the panel will appear, showing you the current team and all available choices.

If you have a four-person team, you have to have every race on the team. As the game progresses, you will be able to unlock more slots in the team. You will be able to assign any class to them. The best idea is to put a warrior and the rogue in these spots.

Only changes should concern the specializations. That means that you shouldn't swap a bard for, say, a warrior. The classes should be permanent. You should only change the skill branches you develop. This will make sure that the skills of the team are flexible, but at the same time, their roles are permanent.

Party members development

Each member of the party advances the same way the protagonist does. This means that, after reaching a certain number of XP, you will get another skill point that you can spend on any skill. Maintain a constant direction of development of the characters. Don't waste skill points for unlocking another skill tree. Especially, when you have access to more advanced skills.

Equipping characters with new gear is an important element of developing the party. New armors and weapons can be purchased from traders or found as loot. Their value depends on their level. The rarer the item the bigger impact on stats. That's also reflected by the price of the items.

Not all items match all characters, of course. Some items can be used by some classes exclusively. They can also require additional training. These can be accessed by unlocking special skills in the tree.
