Last update: 28 May 2018

State of Decay 2 was created in Unreal Engine 4, so you will be able to enter a magnificent rendition of the real world with realistic shadows and light reflections. Weaker PCs may have a problem with generating such a good graphics, but if someone cares about the gameplay itself and not the visual value of the game, State of Decay 2 can ensure great fun even with hardware that is in the range of minimum hardware requirements. In such case, you just need to reduce the level of graphical settings.

Thanks to the number of graphical options available in State of Decay 2 you can achieve a decent number of FPS (Frames Per Second) with neat graphics quality. The following list contains the main graphical options of the game:

  1. Resolution - This option is used to set the resolution of the game. Set the native resolution of your monitor to a satisfactory display quality. Setting to a lower position will blur the image.
  2. V-Sync - This option limits the number of displayed FPS to a value that will prevent the image from tearing apart. In practice, disabling this option may result in a few additional FPSs.
  3. Shadow Quality - The option responsible for rendering shadows of in-game objects. The higher the resolution and the higher number of shadows, the more video card resources you will need. In order to improve the speed of the game, it is worth lowering the shadow quality.
  4. Ambient Occlusion Quality - A shading method that increases the impression of realism in the game. Unfortunately, it can also cause a significant drop in performance. In order to improve the speed of the game it is worth to consider lowering the value of this parameter.
  5. Anti-Aliasing - This is the option for smoothing the edges in the game. Users of weaker graphics cards should consider disabling this option.
  6. Foliage Draw Distance - This option is responsible for the number of objects rendered at the same time. The greater the Draw Distance, the more of your graphics card and processor resources the game will require. If you want to improve the comfort of playing, it is worth to lower the value of this option.
  7. Post Process Quality - An option responsible for visual effects of a game such as ambient occlusion or motion blur. The higher the setting, the higher the load on your video card.
  8. Character Level Detail - This option is responsible for the quality and size of character textures. The higher the quality, the more video RAM the graphics card will use.
  9. World Level Detail - This option is responsible for the quality of the ambient textures displayed. The higher the quality, the more video RAM the graphics card will use.
  10. Screen Space Reflections - An option for creating subtle reflections, like on wet floors.
  11. Subsurface Scattering - This option allows you to display advanced facial expressions while maintaining smooth animation.
