Last update: 31 August 2018

Doom's single player campaign is full of secrets and collectibles. The list below contains information on types of secrets, rewards for unlocking them and their usage (e.g. strengthening your hero or unlocking collectibles). On the next few pages you can learn about their locations.

General information about secrets in Doom

1 - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough
  1. Each level in Doom has a few to a dozen of secrets. Check the Exploration section (the picture above) to see which secrets are available in a given mission. You can check that screen by pausing the game or when you are choosing a mission in the main menu. This should help you determine which secrets you need to unlock to complete a given mission in 100%.
  2. You don't have to find all of the secrets in one playthrough. You can replay missions by selecting them from the main menu.

Automap

Every mission has 1 Automap terminal - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

Every mission has 1 Automap terminal. Interact with it to reveal the entire map. This is helpful in determining where you need to go and it reduces the probability of missing secret areas.

You don't get any additional rewards for finding Automaps (e.g. trophies). The exception is one of the challenges in Argent Facility level. Bird's Eye View challenge, available in that level, requires you to find the Automap terminal.

Argent Cell

There are 12 Argent Cells in Doom - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

There are 12 Argent Cells in Doom. These collectibles are very important because they provide permanent boosts to your stats. You can choose to extend your health or armor bar or to increase ammo capacity. In the first few levels you should choose between health and armor. More ammo is necessary in the later parts where you will have to fight more challenging monsters.

Fully upgrade one of the three categories (health, armor or ammo) to unlock Argent Overload trophy. Find all 12 Argent Cells to unlock Argent Fiend but you have to do that on the same save slot (the game allows you to create three separate save files). Check out the following pages in this chapter so you won't miss any important secrets.

Field Drone

The game has 12 Field Drones - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

The game has 12 Field Drones. This is another important type of secrets - each Drone allows you to unlock one new weapon modification. Each weapon in the game has one or two modifications (you can only use one modification at a time). Upon interacting with a Drone you can choose weapon modifications only for those weapons that are already in your equipment.

Unlock all weapon upgrades to get Hot Swapper trophy. That is not all - mastering modified weapons allows you to unlock Specialist and IDKFA trophies.

Data Log

There are 49 Data Logs in Doom - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

There are 49 Data Logs in Doom. Data Logs in levels that take place in the UAC facility look like small drives. In Hell, they look like terminals. Each new secret adds one codex entry. Reading them is optional but they provide you with knowledge of the game's world.

Get the entire collection of Data Logs to unlock Historian trophy.

Elite Guard

You can find 36 corpses of Elite Guards - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

You can find 36 corpses of Elite Guards. Each one of them has a Research Token that can be spent on upgrading your Praetor Suit. These upgrades have different costs (some can cost 1 token, while others may require 3) and they improve different stats, e.g. increase resistance to certain elements or they can make you move faster.

Fully upgrade one of the 5 Praetor Suit categories to unlock Tinkering trophy. You can also get Overclocking trophy for fully upgrading all the categories but you have to do that on the same save slot (the game allows you to create three separate save files). Check out the following pages in this chapter so you won't miss any important secrets.

Bobblehead - Collectibles

Doom has 26 Bobbleheads, also called collectibles - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

Doom has 26 Bobbleheads, also called collectibles. These secrets can be treated as easter eggs. These figures are miniatures of the Doom Marine wearing different armors. These items don't have any particular usage. You can check your collection in the main menu.

Collect all the Bobbleheads to unlock Every Nook and Cranny.

Trial Stone

Dooms single player campaign has 12 Trial Stones - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

Doom's single player campaign has 12 Trial Stones. Find them to complete their challenges. To complete them you may have to, e.g. kill enemies in a certain way or to go through a map within a time limit. Leave more difficult challenges for later - you can access them in the main menu (Rune Trial Select option).

Runes are related to two achievements - A Gift from Beyond and The Circle is Complete. That is not all. Collected runes can be activated in the equipment menu. Every active rune gives you a new ability or increases your stats. Also, you can upgrade them by completing their challenges. Momentum Shift and IDDQD achievements are related to the process of upgrading runes.

Classic Map

You can unlock 13 maps (levels) from the classic Doom released in 1993 - Types of secrets in Doom - Secrets - Doom Game Guide & Walkthrough

You can unlock 13 maps (levels) from the classic Doom released in 1993. Always start by searching for a lever. After that you must find entrance to a secret location - you can recognize it by "retro look". Enter inside to unlock a classic map. You can select these levels in the main menu.

There are no rewards for completing classic Doom levels (trophies etc.).

Secret Area

A unique category - secret areas are usually tied with other collectibles and secrets. For example, Secret Areas are locations where you can enter a classic map or where you can find a Bobblehead. There are only a few exceptions where a secret location can be a completely separate area, e.g. a place where you can find a new weapon or a lot of supplies. There are 79 Secret Areas in Doom. Check Exploration tab in the menu to see how many Secret Areas you have manage to unlock in a given level.
