What is The Nexus and what can you do there?
Nexus is the place where your character gets the first time after death in the tutorial. This is, you can say, the only peaceful place in the game, where you have time to improve the statistics of your character, pick up various weapons and armor, replenish stocks such as medicinal grass or arrows and much more.
It is also a consistent place where you will meet most of the released NPCs, so they will offer their items or teachings. There you will find, among other things, a blacksmith who will repair and improve your equipment, Stockpile Thomas, whom you will entrust most of your belongings, or even vendors offering their goods.
It is also consistent with where you choose which land you want to go to. To do this, you need to climb the stairs, and then choose the location you are interested in and teleport right there.
How to upgrade your character?
There is also the Maiden in Black, where you will be able to spend the acquired souls in exchange for improving the statistics of your character.
However, she does not appear in the Nexus until you defeat the Phalanx boss. When you do, go back to her. She'll tell you to go to The Monumental. The cutscene will show you the way to it, but you have to go to the top.
You'll find The Monumental near the balcony. Talk to him. After a while, you will have to choose the answer: yes or no. It doesn't really matter what you choose, but it's worth answering yes, because with over 90% of the character's white tendency, he will give you the ring when you talk to him again. After talking to The Monumental, go to the Maiden in Black, so you can now spend your souls on improving the character.
