Multiplayer modes in Black Ops 4 Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Guide and Tips

Last update: 22 October 2018

Call of Duty: Black Ops IV has multiplayer modes only, with no actual single player mode. However, you can test yourself and the available specialists with unlocked weapons in training missions against computer-controlled bots - to do so, select the Specialist HQ tab.

Control

The mode consists in taking over the zones in designated points on the game map.

Together with the 5 on 5 teams, take over the two marked checkpoints on the map within the time limit. The mode is known from many FPS games:

  • Stand in the field to take over a point and defend it - takeover will be interrupted when an opponent is in the field; more players in the zone will take over a point faster.
  • The point that will be taken over cannot be retaken anymore.
  • To take over the point you have a limited amount of time and "lives" - respawns that are summed up for all members of the team.
  • In order to win, you need to win three victories per game, and in subsequent matches the sides are swapped.
  • The team of defenders will win if they hold at least one point to the end of the game or kill as many opponents as their respawns.
  • One round of the match lasts 1.5 minutes, so the whole match can last from 4.5 to 7.5 minutes.

Domination

Another common mode in many online shooters that consists in taking over points to start collecting victory points. There are three points available on the map: take them over and keep them in order to score points for your team. The winner will be the team that first scores 200 points (100 points per round).

Deathmatch

Classic "everyone vs everyone" mode. Kill the opponents you meet on the map. In order to win, you must have 30 kills.

Team Deathmatch

Simple combat mode: two teams that fight against each other on the battlefield. You receive points for kills. You need to score 75 kills to win.

Kill Confirmed

This mode is similar to a classic team deathmatch. However, in order to strengthen the team character of the match, every kill must be "confirmed" by taking the dog tags that you will find on the ground after the death of the opponent; there are also visible on the radar. If a teammate prevents you from collecting points, no points will be credited. The game lasts until 60 confirmed kills, or 10 minutes.

In this mode, pure short range combat usually counts: the gadgets and support that allows you to attack over a long distance don't matter if you can't pick up the dog tag later. In this mode, it's very easy to earn experience points: you get extra points for collecting a friend's dog tag (25), and an opponent killed by an ally (50). It's easy to score a lot of points by playing as armored support: lift the dog tags instead of fighting in the front line - many players ignore the need of collecting them.

Hardpoint

This mode is also known in many games as "King of the Hill". As a team you have to take over points on the map and keep them to repel an enemy attack, just like in Domination mode. The difference is that there is only one point on the map, which changes its location after a minute. The game is played until one of the teams reaches 250 points.

Seek and destroy

Kill opponents or place a bomb and protect it until it explodes.

This mode is best known from Counter-Strike game. There are two points on the map to arm the bomb. One team tries to place it on one of the fields and defend it until it explodes after 45 seconds. It is important that each player has only one life per round, so you can also win by eliminating all opponents. Team play and survival are very important here. The whole match lasts 4 rounds.

Heist

Heist is a new, distinctive gameplay mode. Players don't have skills and each of them has one life per round. If player doesn't take too much critical damage, he can be resuscitated by any member of the team. Each round starts with the purchase of selected weapons, armor and additional skills / gadgets, and the amount of money gained at the end of the round depends on the points gained throughout the match (and whether the round has been won). To win, grab the money bag and carry it to the evacuation point. You can also win by eliminating all opponents as an alternative.

In this mode a lot depends on team play and good communication in the team. Additional ammunition and first-aid kits can be found on the ground. It is important that the purchased items - apart from the used ones, including armor vests - are not moved to the next round and have to be purchased again.
