Combat is one of the mainstays of Yakuza 6. Below you can view a bunch of tips regarding combat:

1. Avoid getting surrounded. Most of the time, you are at a numerological disadvantage. Maintain distance and quickly unlock an ability that enables you to deal more damage to groups of targets (collateral damage).
2. Blocking and Dodges. Even if Kiryu is quite powerful, you should learn to perform dodges and block the enemy attacks. Both actions will make the enemy vulnerable to a counter and allow you to avoid taking damage.
3. Use objects. Most of the time, the area of the encounter contains a large number of objects that can be utilized in combat. Bigger and heavier objects deal more damage - consider using e.g. a bike to get rid of incoming opponents.
4. Fighting Stance. Avoid using Fighting Stance when facing larger groups of opponents. The stance is best utilized during one on one fights.
5. Boss encounters. The game contains a lot of bosses that most of the time are faced one on one. Make sure to pick up items and use Heat Actions to deprive your opponent of his health points. If you have problems when facing an opponent, charge an attack and perform a roundhouse kick. When you manage to feel out the distance, you'll be able to hit the opponent again and again, quickly defeating any opponent.
6. Meds. You can open a menu at any given moment and heal your character using meds or eat a meal to replenish your health. Make sure to restock often!
7. Upgrade your hero. Remember to visit restaurants regularly. Meals will enable you to develop your hero, allowing you to get through the dangers at hand. In case of trouble, you can always lower the difficulty level (unless you are planning to complete the game on the highest difficulty level and receive a trophy)
8. Equipment. Your hero can carry two items that will strengthen him immensely. Large numbers of items are found when completing tasks.
9. Safes. You'll quickly receive an ability to open up safes that contain valuable items. A separate chapter of this guide contains information how to find keys and open every safe in the game.
