There is no advanced hunger and thirst management system in Valheim. Food is used to manage your character's health and stamina levels. Your character can eat up to 3 meals at once, and what they eat will affect their overall stamina and health points pool, as well as their regeneration rate. This bonus will last for a set period of time, after which the effect can be renewed by eating another meal.

How to get food?

Food in Valheim can be obtained in several ways by finding it on the map, by growing it (carrots, turnips), by producing it (honey), by hunting game, or by fishing. You can also prepare meals using certain products.

Honey is an extremely valuable food that will give your character the fastest health regeneration (5hp per cycle) that's more than twice the value you get from eating regular roasted meat.

The dishes can be made with a variety of ingredients carrots, mushrooms, fruits, meat, and more. By having the right ingredients in your inventory, you unlock additional recipes. You should pay extra attention to the following recipes.

  1. Serpent stew: 1 Mushroom, 1 Cooked serpent meat, 2 Honey;
  2. Carrot soup: 1 Mushroom, 3 Carrot;
  3. Queens jam: 8 Raspberries, 8 Blueberries;
  4. Sausages: 2 Entrails (obtained from Draugr), 1 Raw meat, 4 Thistle;
  5. Turnit stew: 1 Raw meat, 3 Turnip.
