Have you spent hours in the character creator creating your dream avatar? What if you want to turn into someone else? This page of the guide describes the Simulacra mechanic.
Simulacra - what are they?
Simulara is a mechanic revolving around linking characters to weapons. You'll collect various weapons while playing ToF. They can be obtained during story missions or via gacha pulls. You'll learn more about gacha pulls on a separate page of the guide - Special Orders. The most powerful weaponry (of SR and SSR rarities) are linked to their wielders, called Simulacra.
The player can switch their character to one of the owned Simulacra at any moment. This is done by clicking the golden Activate button in the Simulacra menu. This is, however, only cosmetic. The real power lies in the weapons themselves. These can still be used without transforming into their linked Simulacrum.
You can view your Simulacra by pressing the Escape key and selecting their tab from the displayed menu.
Awaken
Awaken is a mechanic allowing you to "befriend" Simulacra. You can do so by giving them gifts.
Buying gifts
You can acquire gifts by purchasing them in the store. Common gifts can be purchased from merchants all around the world in exchange for gold.
If you wish to purchase something better, you'll need to check out the Points Store. You can do so by entering the menu in the upper-right corner of the screen (Esc by default) and selecting Commissary. Then enter the Points Store tab. You can buy gifts with Training points. These are special points you earn by completing training challenges. You'll learn more about currencies on a separate page - Game currencies.
Awakening progress
Gifts increase the Awakening progress of Simulacra. You can check the progress in the middle of the screen, after selecting the character. This lets you unlock bonuses tied to the Simulacra (they can be checked to the right of the screen). These are mostly more information about the characters. Reaching 1,200 points, however, grants you a special trait you can equip in the Simulacra menu. Reaching 4,000 points enhances this trait further.
To activate it you must enter the Simulacra tab, select the character in question and move the slider under the character portraits.
Giving gifts
To give someone a gift you must select the character you want to enhance your relationship with, enter the Gift tab and decide which gift you want to gift them. You should know the Simulacra have their own preferences. They will like some gifts more than others, rewarding you with more Awaken points. The game will let you know about it with a message above the gift list.
Story
After reaching level 25 you'll unlock special quests accessible from the Simulacra menu. They're linked to the specific Simulacra and serve as their personal stories. Remember you can still participate in character quests even if you don't own the character in question.
