Last update: 11 May 2016

Arverni control only one region in center of Galia. They start the game only with one ally - Pictones and old enemy - Aedui. Due to the line-up of particular neighbors and not the best starting position, conquering at least one entire province will require a lot of effort.

As in case of all barbarian factions, starting Arverni units are quite weak - Characteristic | Factions - Arverni - Factions - Arverni - Total War: Rome II Game Guide

As in case of all barbarian factions, starting Arverni units are quite weak. Fortunately you quickly get and access to cavalry which will be your main shock force until the game end. With the support of savage dogs and spear nobles, conquering of Galia is only matter of time.

Starting bonuses

Arverni have great bonuses allowing them to keep fighting with neighbors:

  • Gallic Horsemanship: +1 experience rank for Gallic cavalry recruits
  • Warrior Society: +1 public order for every war against a neighboring faction
  • Gallic Craftsmanship: +10% wealth from industrial buildings
  • Tribal Hegemonists: Moderate diplomatic bonus with all barbarian factions (cultural affinity)
  • Internal Power Struggles: Public order penalty (maximum of -4) from presence of Celtic culture

The most important available units

Celtic warriors

Basic shock infantry of Arverni. They are tough in attack and weak in defense. They are ideal as flanking infantry.

Oathsworn

Elite shock infantry of Arverni. They have very good melee attack and damage, which makes almost all their hits reach the target. Unfortunately their medium armor means that they shouldn't take the hostile charge.

Spear warriors

Medium armor and good melee defense allows them to stand the enemy charge and hold in fight until reinforcements arrive.

Spear nobles

Elite spearmen of Arverni. Medium armored but with great melee defense, they are very tough opponent to defeat. If you need to hold the front line, spear nobles will do it without problems.

Light horse

This light Arverni cavalry equals with damage the medium cavalry from other nations. It is able to rapidly destroy light infantry units and support the attack of your other units.

Heavy horse

This cavalry is able to defeat riders of other nations without any problems, making its way to back of the enemy army. Unfortunately its charge is still not enough to break heavy infantry ranks.

Noble horse

Elite Arverni cavalry. Those units are extremely resistant to attacks and have good armor and high amount of health points. Their charge is able to break some ranks of enemy infantry. Noble cavalry after getting to the flank of enemy army or to its back can decide about battle fate.

Celtic slinger

Celtic slingers are effective in the initial stage of the game, when units are weakly armored. Rain of stones will thin enemy troops without problems.

Savage dogs

Unleashed dogs are able to rip enemy skirmishers and cause chaos among its infantry. This is the perfect opportunity to attack chaotic units with use of heavy cavalry.
