The game starts at chapter eight, which is when the previous game ended. Before you start the actual gameplay, you can load a saved game from the previous part if you have one. If not, choose one of the heroes from the first game - Rook or Alette. It is related to the choice from the last episode of the first part. They continue their journey in this game, so a loaded savegame will not make you start the game as a different character.
In the beginning, you will be taught/reminded the basic combat mechanics. Follow the tutorial to get rid of the enemies without taking losses. If you haven't understood something or skipped something in the tutorial, see the Combat chapter, where you will read about the basics and learn some tips concerning strategies. During the battle, you will meet Aleo, the poet who will join your team.
After you finish the fight, you will have your first conversation with one of the villagers. Dialogues have quite an impact on your team's performance. You can often acquire supplies, increase morale, or change the story a bit by talking to people. Alternatively, the result might be negative. Conversations with your teammates won't change anything, they just push the story forward. The first one is like that, it contains three or four options that do not affect further story.
