An external light source is necessary if you want to explore dungeons or caves in Outward - in such places, the lack of light reduces visibility to almost none. Traveling at night in an open area without light is also difficult. So, you have to use a torch or a lantern. If you hold a lantern or a torch in the hand, you cannot use a shield or a two-handed weapon. A good solution is to fix the lantern to the backpack, which allows you to both lights up the immediate area and frees up both your hands. In this section, you will learn how to fix a lantern to the backpack.
How to attach the lantern to the backpack?
Fixing the lantern to the backpack is very simple, but you will need the Nomad Backpack for this. Attaching the lantern to the backpack that you received at the beginning of the game is impossible. The Nomad Backpack can be bought from the trader named Doran in Cierzo for 25 pieces of silver.
Having the Nomad Backpack, open the inventory, select the lantern, and then select the "Move to Nomad Backpack" option. This will fix the lantern to your backpack - now you can light your way and use both hands of the character at the same time.
Remember that the lamp needs enough oil to continue to burn. More information about this was included in the section of this guide titled "How to replenish the oil in the lamp?"
