The lantern can be attached to the Nomad Backpack.

Fixing the lantern to the backpack is very simple, but you will need the Nomad Backpack for this. Attaching the lantern to the backpack that you received at the beginning of the game is impossible. The Nomad Backpack can be bought from the trader named Doran in Cierzo for 25 pieces of silver.

The lantern can be fixed to the backpack in the inventory screen.
