Towards the end, you will play a very long chapter, where you will have to put up arduous fight for control of the territories that you have conquered.
  1. After the storyline has ended, you will unlock a completely new act of the game. This time, there are no storyline missions here. The aim of this act is to take part in sieges/defense of fortresses you have already seized.
  2. This act has been divided into 10 stages. In each one, enemies attack your fortress - at first, this is only one attack, e.g. on Minas Morgul. With time, however, during a single turn, you will have to defend as many as 3-4 times. Only then, will the current stage end and the next one will start, where you will have to defend again.
  3. If you lose control of a fortress, you will have to besiege and recapture it. Only then, will the "turn", and fighting for the given region end.
  4. The difficulty level jump at this stage of the game was originally very large (compared to the first three acts of the campaign), but was reduced after the release. Nevertheless, you must be aware you will battle high-level hostile orcs.
  5. You can focus on dominating orcs - also unlock the last slot for Captain, to make defense easier. It is a good idea to buy the best available modification for the fortress, because this is not going to be easy.
  6. Will receive new abilities - resurrection of the dead and can summon wights. This is quite useful and it makes defending/besieging slightly easier.
  7. You will also receive a new legendary set that will additionally buff your necromancy abilities.
  8. To complete this act, originally you needed around 20-30 hours. In the current version, the grind accompanying Shadow Wars is much shorter.
  9. After you have completed the 10th chapter of the act, will you see the real ending. However, if you do not plan on playing this act of the game, you can always see the ending on our channel!

Update - July 2018

In July 2018, Middle-earth: Shadow of War received an important large update on all hardware platform, which introduced extensive changes. They also covered Shadow Wars and influenced the following things:

  1. Microtransactions were completely removed from the game. Shadow Wars stage was initially largely built around microtransactions, which could significantly facilitate gameplay and shorten the grind needed to see the true ending of the adventure.
  2. Significant changes in the game balance were introduced. You don't have to be afraid that removal of microtransactions has made progress in Shadow Wars even more difficult. They have been changed and you can now make significant progress in this mode without spending real money - the difficulty level of Shadow Wars no longer increases dramatically compared to the difficulty level of the first three acts, and the grind required to watch the true ending of the game has been reduced.
  3. The Shadow Wars mode was renamed to epilogue and expanded with a narrative performed by Shelob, Witch-king of Angmar and Dark Talion.
  4. Nazgul masks have been added to the game to unlock new skills for resurrecting the fallen, casting curses on enemies and summoning powerful monsters.

It was made possible to develop your troops further and improve the fortresses even after having seen the final credits.
