Neon above the entrance to the cafe
You can use one of the firearms to shoot the neon after Matthieu Mendola stands under it. The neon will drop on Mendola and will kill him.
Snail stand
Matthieu Mendola will eat a snail only after he's visited the stand for the second time. You can poison the snails, but it's good to distract the merchant prior to that by turning off the generator (blue 6 on the map).
Spices stand
Matthieu Mendola will try the spices only after he's visited the stand for the second time. You can poison them prior to that, but it's easy to be noticed here.
Phone booth
The handyman is fixing the booth which Matthieu Mendola plans to use. You can distract the handyman by using a switch to the east from here (blue 11 on the map) and then break the phone so that it fatally shocks Mendola when he uses it.
Maintenance room key
You can open the maintenance room (green 7 on the map) and collect an unused handyman disguise and a screwdriver.
Fortune teller
You can take over fortune teller's identity after sabotaging the fuse box (red 6 on the map) and then murder Matthieu Mendola when he comes for his future to be told. It's good to also increase the fog so that the kill won't be noticed.
Fuse box
After sabotaging it you can eliminate the fortune teller and wear his clothes.
Shisha pipe
You can poison the pipe to kill Kong Tuo-Kwang. If you didn't use lethal poison then he will go to the toilet (red 10 on the map) and that's where you can drown him.
Pool
You can fatally electrocute Kong Tuo-Kwang, but first you must raise the water level in the pool (mechanism by the bar). After Kong Tuo-Kwang stops next to the pool you can shoot at the lamp or you can drop it using the winch (red 11 on the map).
Room with the oil lamp
You can enter this area dressed as a waiter (you will be frisked) or a bodyguard. Put out the lamp and sabotage the gas pipe. After Kong Tuo-Kwang gets here and lights the lamp he will die in an explosion.
VIP invitation
It's in the next booth.
Bathroom
You can drown Kong Tuo-Kwang when he shows up here after he's poisoned.
You can climb the pipe to reach the winch tied to the lamp above to the pool (red 11 on the map) or to get to the roof where the meeting is supposed to take place (red 12 on the map).

You can use the winch to drop the lamp into the pool (red 8 on the map) when Kong Tuo-Kwang stops nearby.
You can use this area to travel between the cafe (red 10 on the map) and the roof where the meeting is supposed to take place (red 12 on the map).
Meeting place
Matthieu Mendola and Kong Tuo-Kwang are supposed to met here, but it won't happen until you show Mendola the way while dressed as a bodyguard. You can reach the roof using the bodyguard's disguise or get to it from the cafe (travelling on the roofs - red 11 on the map).
You can sabotage the gas lamp and use poison on the Shisha pipe, but you should distract a nearby guard first.

A meeting between Matthieu Mendola and Kong Two-Kwang is supposed to take place on the roof of the building. The door is locked - wait for the woman to leave and use a lockpick (you can also poison the woman).
Sick bodyguard
You can easily eliminate him and wear his disguise (watch out for his colleague).
Starting area
The only available place to start the mission. Matthieu Mendola (one of the mission targets) will also begin travelling around the market here.
Cafe
The southern part of the cafe is available to all guests. The northern area (Kong Tuo-Kwang resides there) is reserved for VIP's and they must show an invitation.

You must show an invitation or you must be dressed as a waiter or a bodyguard.
You can start following a landlord here. He will get to one of the shops (blue 4 on the map) where you will be able to attack him and take his invitation.
Shop
You can attack the landlord here and collect his VIP invitation to the cafe (blue 3 on the map). It's best to sneak into the cafe by distracting the worker with the forklift's alarm.
Antiques shop key
You can use it to enter the area with the landlord.
Personnel room
You can get here using a crowbar, a lockpick or by finding the Shisha cafe key. The key is in the possession of one of the bodyguards (blue 9 on the map) and you'll also find it in the bar (green 4 on the map).
Unused waiter disguise, bodyguard's note (it's by the back door), screwdriver.
Generator
You can turn it off to distract the merchant at the snail stand (red 2 on the map). If you don't want to be noticed then you shouldget to the power switch first to disable the lights in this part of the market (blue 10 on the map).
Pipe
You can use it to reach the balcony with the Agency stash (red 15 on the map).
Entrance to the carpet shop
Use a crowbar or a lockpick (risky) or wait for a good moment to sneak behind the shopkeeper. You can get to the roof (blue 9 on the map) where you'll find the bodyguard with the cafe key.
One of the shopkeepers has the carpet shop key.
Bodyguard with the Shisha Cafe key
You can kill the bodyguard and the shopkeeper or distract the bodyguard with a throwable. You can use the key to open the personnel room in the cafe (blue 5 on the map).
Food court lights switch
You can use this switch to ensure that you won't be discovered when turning off the generator in the market (blue 6 on the map).
Lights switch
You can use the switch to distract the handyman who is working on repairing the phone booth (red 4 on the map). It's best to use the handyman disguise (green 7 on the map) so you won't alarm the area. Once the handyman has moved away from the phone booth you can sabotage it.

You can use it to end the mission, but you must have keys for it (green 2 on the map).

The truck is in the southern part of the map (blue 13 on the map) and you can use it to escape after completing the mission.

The above map presents area of operation for the mission entitled "A house Built on Sand". This is one of two new contracts included in the summer episode of Hitman. "A house Built on Sand" takes place in Marrakesh, Morocco, which you have already visited in the third episode of the first season of the game.

The map has been modified for the purposes of this contract. This time around, it is restricted to the big market place, in the center of which there is Shisha Cafe. The two major locations from the previous mission in this area - the school and the embassy - are unavailable here. You can still move around the remaining areas, but locations of nearly all important places have been changed.

In this mission, Agent 47 has to assassinate Matthieu Mendola and Kong Tuo-Kwang. Additionally, you will be required to obtain secret documents that are in the possession of Mendola, which appear in the spot where he is assassinated. The important piece of information is that the scheduled meeting between Mendola and Kwang will not take place, unless you first help Mendola reach the meeting place. This makes things easier, because you will then be able to familiarize yourself with the map without being bothered, as well as with routes that your targets take. You can kill Mendola and Kwang in totally separate parts of the map, or prepare a trap that will spring after the two meet. This chapter presents a detailed description of the mission area and will provide you with the best ideas of eliminating your targets.

Mission preparation

On the of the key items to take along for the mission is lethal poison. It can help you eliminate both of the targets. In the mission area, you will only find rat poisons. Also, you can consider taking a lockpick along, which will allow you to access quickly the staff room in the Cafe (M10,5), without the necessity to find the key.

In mission "A house Built on Sand", there is only one Agency stash, which you can find on the rooftop of the building in the Western part of the market place (M10,15). It is a good idea to select sniper rifle to be delivered there, although, you should realize that sniping the targets down will require you to reach vantage points.

In this mission, there also is one starting point, which is the vicinity of the (unavailable) embassy in the Southern part of the map (M10,1). Your default suit will allow you to move around majority of the map, although infiltrating the VIP-only area in the café (M10,2) and the place where Mendola and Kwang meet (M10,12) will be more difficult. On the map, there are four Shopkeeper disguises (M10,5) and a handyman disguise (M10,7), although it is best to reach the sick bodyguard in one of the side alleys (M10,19) straight away. It is not too difficult to eliminate the guard. Thanks to wearing his disguise, you will be able to access the rest of the areas that can be only accessed by authorized personnel.

Mission information

Your targets are Matthieu Mendola and Kong Tuo-Kwang. They are scheduled to meet on the rooftop of one of the buildings in the market place (M10,12). However, the meeting will not take place before you perform several actions first. By default, Matthieu Mendola is traveling around various parts of the market place and stops, among others, by the snail stand (M10,2), in the phone booth (M10,4) and at the fortune teller's (M10,5). Kong Tuo-Kwang, on the other hand, is staying in the VIP area all the time, in Shisha Café (M10,3) where he is smoking the pipe (M10,7) or visiting the room with the oil lamp (M10,9). For details on their routes, see the next page of this guide.

Difficulty levels: "A house Built on Sand" is a mission of medium difficulty level. One of the things that make it difficult is the size of the map itself, even though that the school, the embassy and the tunnel are no longer accessible. Finding some of the mission items and items of interest can be time-consuming. Fortunately enough, the assassination part is not that demanding. You can kill Mendola and Kwang in a variety of ways, either the more, or the less time-consuming. An additional facilitation is the fact that you can easily obtain the disguise of the bodyguard and other useful disguises.
