On this page of our guide to The Forgotten City, you'll learn how to save Ulpius. You'll come across the man during the story quest, right after you talk to the woman you're going to give the Silphium Resin to. She will send you to Ulpius - the man wants to commit suicide. You can't stop him at first. On this page, you will find a detailed explanation of what to do to save Ulpius from imminent death.

The first meeting with Ulpius

After talking to the cured Iulia, quickly go to Octavia and Ulpius. You will be guided by a marker visible on the map. Just follow the paths on the left side of the city.

When you get to the top, you'll see Octavia cleaning up the writing on the floor. Ulpuis stands on the edge, over the cliff.

You can lead this conversation any way you want. At this point, you can't stop the man from killing himself. You will be able to do this only at a later stage of the game.

Select "Actually, I really need to talk to Ulpius". Ulpius will tell you why he wants to kill himself. Then he will jump off the cliff. This is not the time to go back to the temple and break the cycle. First you need to get the money.

Gathering denarius

There's only one way to stop the man from killing himself. You need 2,000 denarius. With this money, he will say that he has the opportunity to rebuild his life.

You can earn money by walking around the city and the caves just below it. However, this is a long and difficult process. Getting 2,000 denarius is a really challenging task.

If you really want the cash fast, you will have to steal it. The merchant you bought The Silphium Resin/stole from has the most denarius. Go back to him. Remember, you're doing everything you can to save another person's life. Just go into the store, take the keys from the shelf (screen above), and then open the chest by the bed. It'll break the Golden Rule, but you'll get 2,450 denarius.

Quick reminder - after breaking the Golden Rule, you must go to the temple and break the loop. The denarius will stay in your inventory. All you have to do is go to Ulpius and stop him from jumping.

Stopping Ulpius

You have 2,500 denarius and saved Ulpius' live. All you have to do now is play the conversation right. Select the following options:

1. "Is this what Sentilla would want?"
2. "Actually, I do."
3. "No. "You'd be free."
4. "Of course."

That way, you will give him 2,000 denarius - the man survives and gives you another quest.
