Completing missions, igniting bonfires, taking over outposts or even collecting items will reward you with experience points. They are required to level up and get skill points. Each skill requires a number of points, so sometimes it's better to save them up and unlock the skills you need the most.

Takkar's abilities related to health and regeneration are among the most important ones. Skinning I, Skinning II and, later on, Reveal Terrain I and Reveal Terrain II are useful from the Gathering category. Tensay's skills concern animals - you should invest your skill points in abilities that allow you to tame increasingly stronger beasts. If you do not use owls, leave the rest for last. Jayma's most valuable skill is Craft Arrows - if you use the bow extensively, it will let you craft more arrows. When it comes to Karoosh, buy the ability to ride beasts and various takedowns. Wogah has nothing to offer in the beginning. In the further part of the game, buy resistance to damage from Dah and Fire Resistance from Roshani. When you own the best skills, you can unlock the rest in any order.

Totems are easy to find. Getting all of them gives you quite an experience bonus.

Note that the game has a hidden experience limit. When you reach it, Takkar won't be able to gain XP for his actions. Unlocking all abilities is still possible, but to do it, you will have to complete bonus (orange) missions with "1 experience point" as a reward.

Getting them all is really time-consuming, though. The whole process is worth speeding up:

- Complete all Wenja missions (random events) because you don't have to put much effort to completing them,

- increase the population of the village by completing Wenja missions, igniting bonfires and taking over outposts. At one point, the game will start giving you a 2% XP bonus every time you increase the population by 10 villagers,

- take over outposts without being seen or at least without raising the alarm. You will receive more XP,

- perform actions that give you more points - using takedowns is the most profitable way of getting rid of enemies, while using a beast gives you least points. Headshots are rewarded too,

- find all 12 Spirit Totems. You will increase your XP bonus.

Takedowns are the most rewarding moves. - Skills and experience - Basics - Far Cry Primal - Game Guide and Walkthrough
Takedowns are the most rewarding moves.

Orange missions that give you a point can be completed at any moment, but they are worth saving for last, when your experience bar gets filled more slowly. Skill menu will tall you when you get close to the limit - new levels will cost 5000 XP.

Starting abilities

Unlock additional health bars as soon as possible (Extra Health I, Extra Health II). Then you should buy skills that allow you to tame stronger beasts. Try to gain access to bears and tigers rather early in the game. Pay attention to gathering skills, too (Skinning I, Skinning II), so that you will receive more resources. After you bring Jayma and Karoosh to the village, try to get Craft Arrows I (if you use the bow a lot, running out of arrows and having to collect wood can be annoying), then the ability to ride mammoths (Mammoth Rider) and other animals (Beast Rider). With tamed predators at his side, Takkar will become a true killing machine.
