Last update: 05 June 2022

This page of the guide to Crysis provides information about the 2020 edition - Crysis Remastered. We have prepared a list of the most important changes and innovations that have appeared in the remaster. In addition, we explain whether the game has been expanded or compressed in terms of original content.

Key information about the remaster

Crysis Remastered is the title of the remastered edition of the 2007 game called Crysis - Crysis: Crysis Remastered - Appendix - Crysis Game Guide

Crysis Remastered is the title of the remastered edition of the 2007 game called Crysis. The remastered edition appeared in 2020on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. It's also available in backwards compatibility on PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. Next-gen consoles have been given a free next-gen patch that makes the game look nicer, allows it to run at up to 4K resolution and display animation at up to 60 frames per second.

The remaster of Crysis 1 is treated as a separate production and not as a free update to the original release of the game. You can buy it separately or as part of the Crysis Remastered Trilogy which also includes remasters of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. Unfortunately, the standalone Crysis Warhead DLC has not been remastered yet and it remains available only in the original version from 2008.

The described release is, as its name suggests, a remaster, not a remake. The availability and course of the missions, as well as all the basic mechanics of the gameplay remain unchanged. The improvements cover technical aspects, which we have described in more detail in the following paragraphs.

The remaster does not have any multiplayer mode known from the original release of Crysis 1. Only the single player campaign is available.

List of major technical improvements

All the most important improvements of the remaster of Crysis concern its technical layer. The remaster is adapted to work on modern equipment and use many of its unique technologies. Here is a summary of the most important changes and new elements:

  1. Full support for high resolution, including the option to play in 4K.
  2. Higher quality textures. Depending on the version of the game they can be up to 8K.
  3. Better particle effects, new lighting system, motion blur (optional) and volume fog.
  4. Support for the ray tracing technology - it covers most of the surface in the game world.
  5. Support for the DLSS 2.0 technology - generally, it can improve the performance of the game while maintaining the overall quality of graphics.

Remaster on PS5 and Xbox Series X

The developers of the remaster, sometime after its premiere, released a free next-gen patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X, which significantly improves the graphics quality compared to the versions designed for PS4 and Xbox One. The most important feature is the option to play at an up to 4K resolution and display animations at up to 60 FPS.

3 main graphic modes are available, thanks to which you can customize the graphics to your preferences - the modes are listed here:

  1. Performance - It focuses on performance and allows you to play at 60 frames per second in 1080p resolution.
  2. Quality - It emphasizes the quality of graphics and enables the 4K resolution. Animation strives for to 60fps, but you should expect occasional drops.
  3. Ray Tracing - It allows you to play with the ray-tracing technology at max 2K resolution. Animation strives for to 60fps, but you should expect occasional drops.

Additional note - on Xbox Series S, Quality and Ray Tracing only allow 30 frames per second.
